In First Two Months, Bennet for America Books $3.5 Million

DENVER — Bennet for America today announced that it brought in $3.5 million in the two months since Michael announced his candidacy for president on May 2. This includes $700,000 that was transferred from his Senate campaign account.

“In just two months, Michael has set himself apart from other candidates, showing he has the breadth of experience and record of winning tough races to defeat Donald Trump,” said Bennet for America spokesperson Shannon Beckham. “Despite Michael entering the race late because of a prostate cancer diagnosis, we raised more in two months than several other campaigns did in the entire first quarter. We’re building a sustainable, long-term campaign to defeat Donald Trump, and we’re just getting started.”

Bennet for America also announced that 83 percent of the campaign’s contributions are $25 or less, and 95 percent of the contributions are $100 or less — demonstrating a strong base of grassroots support. The campaign has seen a surge of donors and interest following Michael’s strong debate performance last week, particularly from first-time donors and those in early states.

Last Friday, the campaign received the highest number of donors since the week it launched — 54% of whom were brand new supporters of the campaign. This swell of support represents nine times the number of donations in a single day compared to the previous week.

The campaign has also seen an outpouring of interest online, with a 222% increase in visitors to the website the day after the debate compared to the previous week. There was a particular surge from early states, with a 245% increase from Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, and a 367% increase from California.

Today, in an op-ed written exclusively for Essence Magazine, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes of Connecticut endorsed Senator Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Hayes, the 2016 National Teacher of the Year, is the first black woman to represent Connecticut in Congress. She is the seventh member of the CBC to back Senator Harris’ candidacy.

Citing her dominant debate performance and 3AM agenda, Hayes wrote that Senator Harris is “the perfect antidote to our current President’s false narratives. With her intellect, strength and empathy at the helm, we can work to be better together. Senator Harris has laid out a powerful and bold vision for this country that is inclusive of everyone’s lived experience and grounded in the belief that success should not be defined by race, gender, socioeconomic status or zip code.”

“I’m so proud to have Jahana’s support in this race,” said Harris. “As a teacher and working mom, Jahana understands first-hand that our families are looking for leadership to solve the challenges that keep them up each night. Hayes is the first federally elected official in Connecticut to endorse in the Democratic presidential primary. She joins fellow CBC members Barbara Lee of California, Al Green of Texas, Alcee Hastings and Frederica Wilson of Florida, Wm. Lacy Clay of Missouri and Bobby Rush of Illinois in supporting Harris’ candidacy.

In the wake of her commanding performance in Thursday night’s debate, Senator Kamala Harris continues to build support in Nevada, earning eight new endorsements from elected officials and community leaders. Kamala’s latest endorsers include Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, community advocate Jennifer Lopez and African-American community leader and member of Links Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. LeVerne Kelly. Kamala boasts the most Nevada endorsers of all the 2020 Democratic candidates -- 74 percent are people of color, 58 percent are women, and 16 percent are LGBTQ.

In second quarter, Sanders amasses nearly 1 million small-dollar donations; 99.9% of donors can continue giving

WASHINGTON, July 2 – Bernie 2020 today announced a record grassroots fundraising haul with nearly 1 million donations in the second fundraising quarter. Overall the campaign booked $24 million in the second quarter, raising $18 million and transferring $6 million. This quarter’s fundraising reflects a growing and persistent grassroots movement in support of Sen. Sanders’ presidential bid driven by working people. The average donation was $18 and nearly 99.9% of donors can give again, showing durable and energetic grassroots support that will continue to back the campaign in the many months leading up to the first caucuses and primaries.

Sanders held exactly zero big dollar fundraisers and rejected money from Wall Street executives and the fossil fuel industry. 99.3% percent of donations were $100 or less. The most frequent donations by occupation and employer came from teachers and Walmart workers. Since the launch of the campaign, there have been nearly 2 million individual donations.

“This is a movement built by working people all across this country,” said campaign manager Faiz Shakir. “While other candidates court big money at fancy fundraisers, this campaign is supported by teachers, retail workers, and nurses who are putting what little money they have behind the one candidate who can bring about the transformative change this country needs. Our strength is in numbers and we have a million person movement committed to this campaign who can give over and over again.”

Other numbers to note:

The campaign received almost 200,000 individual donations since the day of the first debate
The 2016 campaign did not get to 2 million donations until December of 2015 — eight months into the campaign
The most common profession was a teacher
The most common employer was Walmart. Others in the top 10 include Amazon, Starbucks, Target and the US Postal Service — the people Bernie is fighting for
More than 225,000 donations from people in the first five states during Q2

The second quarter fundraising haul comes as Bernie 2020 lends its traditional fundraising channels, like email and peer-to-peer texting, to support issue advocacy causes and local activism. In the last few months, Bernie 2020 has emailed and texted supporters to warn them of ICE raids and inform immigrants of their rights, turn out people to support workers on picket lines at McDonalds, the University of California, Delta and American Airlines, Wabtec, Amazon, General Motors, Disney, and Nissan, and fundraise for local abortion rights groups after the Alabama abortion ban.

“You don’t need Wall Street or fossil fuel money to harness a movement. In fact, by rejecting the influence of corporate money we have built a campaign that not only speaks to the working people and their issues but supports them in tangible ways. This is what a Bernie Sanders presidency would look like,” said Shakir.

Ames Is Harris’s Second Major New Hampshire Endorsement Following the First Democratic Debate

On the heels of her commanding debate performance on Thursday, State Representative Dick Ames is endorsing Kamala Harris for President. Ames is a four term State Representative, first elected to the legislature in 2012. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Ways and Means and is an influential figure in Cheshire County politics.

“Kamala is the best possible candidate to go up against Donald Trump in a general election. She is focusing her campaign on the issues that keep Americans up at night, and has announced thoughtful proposals to increase teacher pay, give the middle class an income boost, and promote tax fairness. Kamala also understands the existential threat of climate change, and will treat the crisis with the urgency it deserves,” said State Representative Dick Ames. “Kamala proved during the first debate that she is the candidate we need in this moment, and I’m proud to announce my endorsement.”

Ames joins former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Joe Keefe in throwing his support behind Harris after the first Democratic debate. In his endorsement last week, Keefe highlighted Harris’s “concrete, practical solutions on issues” and noted that Harris is “the best candidate to take on Trump in 2020.”

Harris will return to New Hampshire on July 14.
