Kamala Harris Organizers to Host Over 40 Events Across Iowa

On Saturday, July 20, Kamala Harris’ campaign will celebrate the public opening of its Des Moines field office while organizers across Iowa kick off the campaign’s first “Weekend of Action” by hosting over 40 phone banks, canvass kick offs, and organizing events. Still building on the momentum from Harris’ first Democratic debate performance, the “Weekend of Action” will help the campaign harness supporters’ energy and introduce the campaign to potential caucusgoers around the state.

Iowa campaign chair Deidre DeJear will join organizing staff and local Harris supporters for the office opening, which will also include a back-to-school supply drive to benefit Des Moines Public Schools.

“Our team of volunteers and supporters is growing by the day, and we are so excited to have a space in Des Moines where we can welcome them,” said DeJear. “Members of the community will have a place to make phone calls, join canvass launches, and meet other Kamala supporters. This is one more way we can continue to engage Iowans who are excited about Kamala Harris’ agenda and believe she is the best candidate to take on President Donald Trump.”

With more than 65 paid staffers on the ground, almost all focused on organizing, the Harris operation is reaching into every county and precinct across Iowa. From a canvass launch in Dubuque to a phone bank in Red Oak and at many events across the state during the “Weekend of Action,” organizers and volunteers will continue to engage Iowans in conversations about why Harris is the best person to take on Donald Trump and fight for them and their families.

Kamala Harris to Go River-to-River On 5-Day Iowa Bus Tour Laying Out Her ‘3AM Agenda’ **Updated

Harris Will Meet with Iowans and Emphasize Tangible Solutions to Address Problems That Keep Them Up At Night

Next week, Kamala Harris will barnstorm Iowa on a cross-state, river-to-river bus tour, where she will rally Iowans behind her “3AM Agenda” to address the problems that keep Americans up at night. The bus tour underscores her focus on the first 2020 Democratic contest and follows serious investment by her campaign to compete in the caucuses.

The 5-day bus tour, from Thursday, August 8, to Monday, August 12, will engage caucusgoers from Sioux City in Northwest Iowa to Davenport in Southeast Iowa, from the Missouri River to the Mississippi. Harris will make stops across three of Iowa’s congressional districts throughout Northwestern, Northeastern, Central, and Southeastern Iowa.

During her tour, Harris will meet with Iowans who will be positively impacted by her “3AM Agenda” from members of the disabilities community to small business owners, teachers to those who have been challenged by huge rent increases. She will visit a farm in Southeast Iowa and discuss the trade war and the climate crisis before continuing on to talk about prescription drugs and rural health care. The tour will give her an opportunity to meet caucusgoers at both small and large events, as well as in intimate settings at retail stops across Iowa.

Since Harris’ dominant performance in the first Democratic debate, her investment in Iowa has led to growing excitement across the state. This 5-day swing comes a week after the second Democratic debates.

Following Senator Kamala Harris’ swing through the Granite State on Sunday, State Representative and Manchester Democrats Vice Chair Patty Cornell is announcing her endorsement of Harris. Cornell, a 3-term state representative and assistant House majority floor leader, is a former 36-year public school guidance counselor and a “longtime influential party activist,” according to WMUR.

“I’ve met many politicians before, and Kamala Harris is the real deal. She is compassionate, tough, principled, but also a contagious optimist. She has a thoughtful agenda focused on the issues that matter to Granite Staters, including her middle class tax credit and proposal to help families afford their rent. In addition to her strong and impactful proposals on key policies, Kamala has shown time and time again that she will hold the GOP accountable when it matters the most. And I know she has what it takes to beat Trump in the general election,” said State Representative Patty Cornell. “While there are many worthy candidates running this cycle, Kamala’s intangible qualities -- her warmth, strong sense of right and wrong, and fearlessness -- make my choice for president clear. I am proud to endorse Kamala Harris.”

Cornell told WMUR, “we have an abundance of good candidates, and I’ve met quite a few. I was planning to hold out until the end, but after seeing [Harris] on Sunday, I decided that she is my candidate.”

On July 14, Harris held events across New Hampshire, with more than 400 turning out to a house party in Gilford and more than 900 packing the cafeteria and gym at Somersworth High School.

Cornell joins former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Joe Keefe, State Representatives Dick Ames and Linda Tanner, former Dover Mayors Jack Buckley and William Boc, Co-Chair of the NHDP Senior Caucus Pam Jorgensen, and former State Rep. During his visit to Cleveland, Lordstown, and Columbus, Steyer will discuss how these fundamental rights are necessary to providing all Americans an equal opportunity

(San Francisco, July 18, 2019) — Today, presidential candidate Tom Steyer will roll out his “5 Rights” platform during his Ohio campaign visit. Steyer initially developed the “5 Rights” in December after traveling across the country and listening to the American people voice their needs during town hall meetings and one-on-one conversations. The “5 Rights” serve as a modern-day contract with the American public that guarantees everyone a fair chance at success and a full voice in our democracy. At each stop, Steyer will discuss the need for unencumbered access to voting, clean air and water, education, a living wage and healthcare to be constitutionally protected for every American. The “5 Rights” represent the underlying values of Steyer’s plan for progressive change.

“I grew up believing the point of our country was to be free — the promise that everyone could make a good life for themselves," Steyer said in a video posted today. “But over time I saw big corporations buy our democracy and set the rules for the sake of their profits, not for the common good. Corporate lobbyists rigged the system, leaving the majority of Americans walled off from their dreams. We need to turn this around. Steyer believes that no one — including corporations, lobbyists, or politicians — should be able to violate or take these “Rights” away for the sake of their own profit. As president, Steyer would ensure they are recognized and protected.

The 5 Rights include:
• The Right to an Equal Vote. A healthy democracy depends on the broadest participation possible. Everyone must have an equal voice to demand justice from our government, and everyone must be able to vote with no discrimination and no barriers.

• The Right to Clean Air and Clean Water. Everyone has the right to breathe fresh air and drink clean water, free from industrial poisons. Corporations must not be able to violate this right for the sake of their profits.

• The Right to Learn. Without guaranteed access to a good education, there's no such thing as equal opportunity. Our government must protect the right to a free, quality, public education from preschool through college and on to skills training.

• The Right to a Living Wage. No one should be forced to work more than one full-time job just to survive, and no one should see their raise eaten up by the rising cost of living.

• The Right to Health. Universal health care must be a right — not a privilege — so everyone has the chance to live a healthy life, and our government needs to act to protect the foundations of our health.
