Bernie Sanders to Return to Iowa for Weekend Events in Des Moines, "Bernie Beats Trump" Tour on Monday and Tuesday

Sanders will announce policy to eliminate medical debt and end health care bankruptcies on Sunday ahead of “Bernie Beats Trump” Tour.

DES MOINES – Sen. Bernie Sanders will return to Iowa, attending events in Des Moines this weekend and holding his "Bernie Beats Trump" Tour on Monday and Tuesday.

Sanders will announce his policy to eliminate medical debt and end health care bankruptcies on Sunday in Des Moines following remarks at the Polk County Steak Fry, People’s Action Presidential Forum and Urban Dreams Block Party.

Following a swing through Oklahoma on Sunday, Sanders will hold his "Bernie Beats Trump" Tour of Iowa on Monday and Tuesday, visiting half a dozen counties that flipped for Donald Trump in 2016 after going for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. On the tour, Sanders will highlight how his progressive health care and economic agenda will energize and mobilize millions of voters to defeat Donald Trump and deliver fundamental change.

Visiting half a dozen counties that flipped from Obama to Trump in 2016, Sanders will lay out an agenda to win back Iowa, defeat Trump and deliver fundamental change

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sen. Bernie Sanders next week will hold a “Bernie Beats Trump” Tour of Iowa, visiting half a dozen counties that flipped for Donald Trump in 2016 after going for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Democrats must win these counties in 2020 to win Iowa and win the general election, and Sanders is well positioned to achieve that goal.

“Bernie Sanders is going to defeat Donald Trump because, unlike the president, he will take on the greed and corruption of the world’s biggest corporations,” said Bernie 2020 Iowa State Director Misty Rebik. “In 2016, Donald Trump promised he would stand with the Iowa’s working class, but he’s a fraud and a liar, and we’re going to show that at every stop on this tour.”

On the tour, Sanders will outline a health care and economic policy agenda that will energize and mobilize millions of voters to defeat Donald Trump and deliver fundamental change. The “Bernie Beats Trump” Tour will include events focused on Medicare for All, eliminating medical debt, reinvesting in public education, strengthening unions and standing in solidarity with America’s Latinx community.

Sanders defeats Donald Trump in 20 of the last 20 national polls, and virtually every poll conducted since 2016. In statewide general election matchups, Sanders continues to poll ahead of Trump in Iowa, as well as in the key swing states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida and Texas, totaling 134 electoral votes.

Sanders’ agenda also continues to poll strongly with general election voters. Multiple polls show Medicare for All and the Green New Deal are supported by a strong majority of Americans. Polls on Medicare for All from RealClear Opinion Research, Morning Consult, YouGov, Business Insider and Tulchin Research show that majorities want Medicare for All to replace for-profit private insurance.

In addition to polling, Sanders has a distinct fundraising advantage in the Democratic field. Sanders is the only candidate with more overall donations than Donald Trump. That fundraising lead is seen in Obama-Trump counties as well: Out of all counties nationwide that went for Obama in 2012 and Trump in 2016, Sanders has received more than 81,000 donations -- which is three times the next candidate and more than the next three candidates combined. In all, more than one-in-three total Democratic donors in America’s Obama-Trump counties are Sanders donors, and Sanders has the most Democratic donations in 87 percent of all counties that flipped between the 44th and 45th president. With 31 Obama-Trump counties, Iowa is home to the most flip counties in the country.

DENVER — Bennet for America today launched its first television ads in Iowa as part of an integrated strategy, with digital, field, and political efforts, to further focus resources on communicating directly with Iowa caucusgoers and win the nomination. The two ads — “Most” and “Truth” — make clear what sets Bennet apart from the other candidates and why he’s the best person to beat Donald Trump and lead the country forward.

“Everywhere Michael goes on the campaign trail, people walk away believing he is the leader we need to make change, but not enough people have had the chance to meet him or learn what drives him,” said Bennet for America spokesperson Shannon Beckham. “These ads show who Michael is and how he’s different from other candidates. He’s pounding truth into a campaign full of empty promises and broken politics — calling for a new generation of leadership and a healthcare solution that doesn’t take insurance away from millions of Americans.”

The seven-figure TV and digital buy will run over the course of several weeks. A third ad will also debut during that time. The campaign is significantly increasing its current digital outreach plan with a full suite of digital-first creative spots targeting Iowa caucusgoers. The campaign will also be debuting ads in New Hampshire soon.

Bennet has made 13 trips to Iowa this year, including six days so far this month. According to Radio Iowa, “no other candidate has spent as much time in the state in September.” Bennet spent this past weekend campaigning with former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack and holding events in Obama-Trump counties — such as Lee County, which flipped more than 30 points — that he believes are critical to win in 2020, and that someone with experience winning two tough races in a purple state can help secure. He will be back in Iowa on Friday for the Polk County Steak Fry and to continue to “pound some truth into the campaign” as the Des Moines Register editorial board wrote.

DES MOINES, IA –– After the Polk County Steak Fry, Pete Buttigieg will kick off a four-day bus tour across eastern and northeast Iowa. The tour will start on Saturday, September 21 after the Steak Fry and end in the afternoon on Tuesday, September 24. This bus tour comes as Pete’s campaign in Iowa has seen a major ramp up this month.
