WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
Wisconsin Leaders Applaud Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate
Today, Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. Leaders from across Wisconsin applauded the selection:
“Joe made a great decision in choosing Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate. This November is about returning kindness, respect, empathy, and decency back to the White House—those are our Wisconsin values, and they’re our American values, too,” said Governor Tony Evers. “This election is also about leaders who will choose to bring us together and who will always fight to do the right thing—that’s what Joe and Kamala are all about. This is an historic day for our country and we’re ready for change, so let’s get to work.”
“Kamala Harris is no stranger to breaking through barriers and has never backed down from a challenge,” said Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes. “Kamala Harris grew up believing in the promise of America and fighting to make sure that promise is fulfilled for all Americans, and she became the first Black woman to represent California in the United States Senate. As attorney general, she beat the big banks and cracked down on mortgage fraud. She took on the ban on gay marriage and helped change the law. She fought big oil to protect the environment and she’s faced down the gun lobby. On day one, Kamala Harris will be ready to take on and win the big fights -- let’s go win in November.”
“I want to congratulate my friend Kamala Harris for joining Joe Biden on the ticket as the first Black female vice presidential nominee,” said Congresswoman Gwen Moore. “This is a historic moment -- but Kamala is more than ready for the job. As attorney general, she fought for homeowners and protected the Affordable Care Act from partisan attacks. And in the Senate, she’s been a partner working to reform our criminal justice system and hold Donald Trump’s corrupt administration accountable. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will make an excellent team to restore America’s values and leadership both at home and abroad.”
“Whether it’s going toe to toe with Jeff Sessions or or holding the Administration’s feet to the fire over their corrupt COVID-19 recovery, Kamala Harris does not back down from a challenge,” said Congressman Mark Pocan. “Since she was elected to the Senate in 2016, she has fought for the middle class, introducing legislation to increase the minimum wage to $15, reform cash bail, and defend the legal rights of refugees and immigrants. Together, Joe and Kamala will win the battle for the soul of this nation in November.”
“Kamala Harris is a tireless, fearless champion for the people,” said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. “She’s taken on tough issues like the racial disparities with the COVID-19 pandemic, and she’s stared down Donald Trump’s corrupt appointees and held them accountable for the abuse of power. As we look to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, Kamala knows that we have to invest in workers -- not the wealthy. Joe Biden made a fantastic choice, and I look forward to working with Joe and Kamala to deliver Wisconsin in November.”
“Like many of us, Kamala Harris grew up believing in the promise of America. As the first Black woman to represent California in the United States Senate, Kamala has distinguished herself as a fighter and will help to combat issues facing underserved communities and communities of color,” said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. “As Attorney General, she fought for families and won a $20 billion settlement for California homeowners against big banks that were unfairly foreclosing on homes. She and Joe Biden are ready on Day One to take on the big fights ahead if they win, and she’s already shown the courage and success to win big fights.”
“Kamala Harris is exactly who we need to take on Donald Trump and Mike Pence on the campaign trail. Since she was elected to the U.S. Senate, Kamala has fought to help working and middle class families, defend the legal rights of refugees and immigrants, and increase the minimum wage,” said Wisconsin State Representative JoCasta Zamparria. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will make a fantastic team in the White House and will work tirelessly to restore our values as a beacon of hope, freedom, and optimism around the world.”
