Polk County Democrats Announce First Ever Drive-In Steak Fry
Polk County Democrats will safely organize a landmark event before the 2020 presidential election
Des Moines, IA- The Polk County Democratic Party is proud to announce the first ever drive-in Steak Fry on Saturday, September 12 in Des Moines.
For the first time, the Steak Fry will be held at the Airplane Field at Des Moines Water Works Park. Attendees will be able to watch the program on a large screen constructed for the event and listen on the radios in their vehicles. Steak, chicken, and vegan dinners will be delivered directly to their cars. Social distancing rules will be enforced and face masks will be required when attendees are outside of their vehicles. Tickets are still $35 and are now on sale at www.polksteakfry.com.
“2020 is the most important election of our lives and not even a national pandemic can stop us from organizing,” said Polk County Chair Sean Bagniewski. “From curbside voter registration stations to a record-breaking absentee ballot program, all of our 2020 operations have adjusted because of Donald Trump’s failure to contain the coronavirus. It only makes sense that the Steak Fry safely adapt, too. Iowa is a battleground state this year and a record-breaking turnout in Polk County will turn Iowa blue again. As it has for decades, the final leg of the road to an Iowa victory starts at the Steak Fry.”
Both Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris have been invited to headline the event. Democratic leaders from across the country, including some previous Steak Fry guests, will join in the festivities. Democratic candidates from Iowa will be part of the speaking program as well. All the speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Steak Fry was revived by the newly-elected leadership of the Polk County Democratic Party in 2017 with the permission of former U.S. Senator Tom Harkin. Organized by a team of Democrats under the age of 40, the event has welcomed a string of national leaders with attendance ranging from 1,000 in 2017 to 12,242 people in 2019. The Steak Fry is now one of the largest political events in America.
