WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
North Carolina Leaders Applaud Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate
Today, Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. Leaders across North Carolina applauded the selection:
“This is, without question, a historic moment - and it is one of the most significant steps forward I’ve seen in my lifetime,” said Congresswoman Alma Adams. “Joe Biden knows what it takes to pick the best Vice President to run alongside him, and Kamala Harris is just that. Her experiences as Attorney General and U.S. Senator make her an exceptionally qualified and outstanding candidate to serve alongside President Biden. I am proud to support her, and I look forward to joining North Carolina to vote for the Biden-Harris ticket this November.”
“Since day one, Joe Biden has promised that his White House would reflect the diversity of our country,” said Congressman GK Butterfield. “He is sticking to that promise by picking my friend and colleague. Kamala Harris’ unmatched experience makes her the best partner and ally for our future President. Joe Biden is no stranger to the responsibilities of the Vice President, and Kamala Harris will stand shoulder to shoulder with Biden and begin restoring the soul of our nation on day one.”
“We’re facing the most consequential election of my lifetime,” said Former Governor Jim Hunt. “With Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket, I know that North Carolina has an even greater shot at turning blue up and down the ballot. These two will be a stellar duo, and I look forward to casting my ballot for them in November. We’re going to have two leaders in the White House who care deeply about our working families, education, and putting the needs of North Carolinians first.”
“For far too long, Black women have been the silent majority in the Democratic Party, leading candidates to victory but receiving little in return,” said Chief Justice Cheri Beasley. “I am proud of Vice President Biden's historic choice today, and I know how much it means to countless communities across our state. A Biden-Harris Administration will bring much-needed change, and I look forward to their leadership."
“North Carolinians have an invaluable voice this November,” said Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. “For the last four years, Donald Trump has turned his back on our children, teachers, communities of color, and more, and North Carolina has the unique power to send him packing. I am so excited to support Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate. Their leadership will bring dignity and empathy back to the White House.”
“Joe Biden’s candidacy has centered on fighting to represent the American people, and selecting Kamala Harris as Vice President will further that mission,” said Former Governor Bev Perdue. “Harris will be a strong right hand for Joe Biden as he fights for progress and equality at every stage of his Presidency, and considering that Harris is the first black woman to be nominated as Vice President, the Biden-Harris candidacy is historic in more ways than one. I am proud to stand with Kamala Harris and look forward to electing the first woman Vice President.”
“Vice President Biden has chosen a running mate who has proven her commitment to Democratic values, said Mayor Vi Lyles. “Senator Harris is more than qualified to be the next Vice President. I look forward to working with Vice President Biden and Senator Harris to get out the vote this fall to all who believe that change is necessary.
