Colorado Leaders Applaud Joe Biden’s Selection of Kamala Harris as Running Mate
Today, Joe Biden announced Kamala Harris as his running mate. Leaders from across Colorado applauded the selection:
“Choosing a running mate is one of the most important decisions that a Presidential candidate can make because it clearly defines the candidate's values and priorities. Kamala has a proven record of taking on the big fights on behalf of hardworking people and winning and she's delivered real results,” said Governor Jared Polis. “I am thrilled to help Joe Biden and Kamala Harris win Colorado, and take back the White House so we can finally put our country back on track, together.”
“Having a black woman as our first ever vice presidential nominee is a monumental and historic action. Kamala Harris is the right person to take on Donald Trump and Mike Pence,” said State Representative Leslie Herod. “As the Vice President, she will be in the situation room asking the hard questions and working alongside Joe Biden to bring our country together. She is the right woman for the job and I am very proud to support the Biden – Harris presidential ticket.”
“I am very excited to finally see a black woman on the presidential ticket, and especially one as incredible as Kamala Harris. Since being in the Senate, she has introduced legislation that has helped the middle class, reformed cash bail, and defended the legal rights of refugees and immigrants,” said State Senator Rhonda Fields. “As the state senator for one of the most diverse cities in the nation, I know the importance of representation and Harris is the right choice to fight for my community and the community of all Americans.”
“Kamala Harris has spent her career fighting for people who need it most — an essential quality for our Vice President as we face the coronavirus pandemic, economic turmoil, and our longstanding struggle for racial justice in America. She is a champion for middle-class families, and her leadership in the Senate on criminal justice reform has been vital,” said Senator Michael Bennet. “I know our country will unify behind a Joe Biden-Kamala Harris ticket as we work to defeat President Trump, take back the Senate, and win races up and down the ballot this November.”
“VP Biden has made an excellent choice in Kamala Harris. For years as Attorney General and United States Senator, Kamala has been a fighter for all people and a leading advocate for civil rights, immigration reform and the relationship with Mexico and Latin America. The Biden-Harris ticket is the dream team,” said former Secretary and United States Senator Ken Salazar.
“Joe Biden has demonstrated excellent judgement in his first presidential decision to select Sen. Kamala Harris as his Vice-Presidential candidate. Sen. Harris has the experience and credibility to assume the office of the presidency on day one. As the former Attorney General of California, the second largest legal operation in the U.S. after the Department of Justice, and as a U.S. Senator serving on the intelligence and judiciary committees, she has the depth of knowledge and gravitas to navigate the toughest issues of the presidency,” said Anthony E. Graves, Former Presidential Elector 2012. “She has also endured the searing national scrutiny of being a presidential candidate. The rigor of these litmus tests is undeniable, she has been vetted for the American people.”
“I was the first woman of color to serve in the Colorado State Senate, so I truly understand the importance of having women of color. Kamala Harris was the first Black woman to represent California in the United States Senate, and in that time, she has taken on the gun lobby and fought big oil to protect the environment,” said Former State Senator Polly Baca. “ I applaud Joe Biden’s decision in picking Kamala Harris as his running mate and have no doubt in my mind that Kamala Harris could take over as President at any time if needed.”
