South Carolina Senate Candidate Jaime Harrison Endorses Joe Biden
Today, South Carolina Senate Candidate Jaime Harrison released the following statement endorsing Joe Biden for President of the United States:
“Growing up in a middle class family, Joe has never forgotten who he fights for -- from winning victories for everyday Americans by expanding our nation's healthcare as vice president to leading the charge by getting the Violence Against Women Act signed into law as a U.S. Senator.
“In South Carolina, too many people do not have access to quality affordable healthcare, or a job that pays them enough to support their family and boost them into the middle class. Too many kids in South Carolina go to underfunded public schools and live in communities without broadband access. And, too many South Carolinians travel everyday across crumbling roads and decaying bridges due to poor infrastructure.
“That is why I look forward to working with Joe Biden to fix these issues, and I am proud to be endorsing him to be our next president of the United States.
“We do not just need a president who understands these challenges. We need someone with a track record of getting things done -- of working together with both Republicans and Democrats -- to make progress on the issues that matter most, because South Carolinians can not wait any longer for real solutions.
“Joe Biden is a longtime friend to the people of South Carolina, and as president, he will continue to be an indispensable ally in making South Carolina a healthier and more vibrant place to live and raise a family.
“With a heart forged by the fires of personal tragedy and a depth of experience built through decades of public service, Joe Biden has the immense character, empathy, and judgment our country needs in a moment like this. I am excited to work with him next year, as the next U.S. Senator of South Carolina, to deliver results for the Palmetto State and our nation.”
Harrison is currently running to unseat Senator Lindsey Graham. He previously served as Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, and a key aide to House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.
Vice President Biden won the South Carolina primary on February 29 in a landslide victory. Harrison’s endorsement brings the campaign’s Palmetto State endorsements to more than 190, including House Majority Whip Clyburn, the state’s last two Democratic governors, Jim Hodges and Richard “Dick” Riley; state lawmakers, mayors, community activists, pastors and faith leaders, and local elected officials. Biden’s diverse and broad coalition also consists of nearly 200 members of Educators for Biden and more than 100 members of Women for Biden from every region of the state.
Nationally, Biden for President has previously announced more than 2,500 endorsements from national, state, and local leaders, including current and former U.S. senators and representatives, governors, state elected officials, community leaders, and national security professionals.
