Bernie Sanders to Hold Rallies and Baseball Event in Southeast Iowa *Updated
Sanders Will Bring Together Minor League Baseball Players, Team Leaders and Stadium Workers for a Meeting and Batting Practice
DES MOINES -- Sen. Bernie Sanders will visit southeastern Iowa this weekend to hold events in Burlington, Keokuk, Fairfield and Ottumwa.
On Sunday morning in Burlington, Sanders will hold a meeting and batting practice with minor league baseball players, team leaders and stadium workers. Sanders, who met with Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred last week, has led a national effort to defeat a proposal to eliminate 42 minor league teams, including Iowa’s Burlington Bees, Clinton LumberKings and Quad City River Bandits.
Sanders will also host a rally in Burlington on Saturday evening, a rally in Fairfield and a town hall in Keokuk on Sunday afternoon and a rally in Ottumwa on Sunday evening.
