Kamala Harris to Spend Thanksgiving in Iowa With Her Family
Will hold events with community members throughout the week
Senator Kamala Harris will return to Iowa for Thanksgiving week from Tuesday, November 26, through Sunday, December 1, holding house parties and participating in community events.
On Tuesday, Harris will visit the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families and learn about their job reentry programming and the career and financial services they offer to the community.
On Wednesday morning, Harris will kick off Thanksgiving week with teachers from around the Des Moines area for the launch of Iowa Teachers for Kamala. Harris has long received broad support from Iowa’s teachers after releasing the first policy of her campaign to give Iowa teachers a $12,200 raise. In the afternoon, Harris will start to prep Thanksgiving dinner with members of her family. This will be open to the press.
On Thursday, Harris will cheer on participants in the 2019 Des Moines Turkey Trot as they cross the finish line. And around noon, Harris will visit and spend time with seniors at Corinthian Gardens in Des Moines who are spending the holiday apart from their families. Harris often tells the story of meeting an older African American woman at Corinthian Gardens on the trail for the Obama campaign back in 2008 and convincing her to caucus for the then Senator.
On Saturday, Harris will do a small business walk down 5th street in Valley Junction to mark Small Business Saturday. She will do private meetings with members of the Latinx and African American community in Des Moines, key constituencies Harris’s campaign is organizing, as well as host two Des Moines area house parties.
On Sunday morning, Harris will travel to Indianola and Knoxville to join supporters and potential supporters for house parties.
Throughout the visit Harris will discuss her record of fighting for justice for all Americans, and her plans as President to fight for economic justice, reproductive justice, and health care justice, among others. As Harris has said across Iowa this month, justice is on the ballot in 2020. Harris will continue meeting with Iowans in small groups as the campaign locks in support and the precinct-level leadership necessary on caucus night. Earlier this month at the Liberty and Justice Celebration the Harris campaign was praised for having one of the largest and loudest presences, highlighting a strong organization.
