Cory Booker Will Bring People Together and Help America Rise
Cory Booker can repair the damage Trump has done, heal our country, and make justice and opportunity real for every American
Newark, NJ — Tonight on the debate stage, Cory Booker highlighted his record of running at the toughest challenges and bringing people together to accomplish things others said were impossible.
Pulling people together to do uncommon things has been Cory Booker’s mission for as long as he’s been in politics — from his time as Newark mayor, to his 2016 DNC convention speech, to the launch of this campaign back in February.
In 1996, Cory moved to Newark, NJ, and founded a nonprofit organization to provide legal services for low-income families. At age 29, Cory was elected to the Newark City Council; and in 2006, he began serving as Newark’s mayor for more than seven years.
As mayor, Cory took on some of the city’s biggest challenges and brought together a diverse coalition of people to deliver real change for residents: new and better schools, new supermarkets, safer neighborhoods, and economic growth.
The first African American elected to the US Senate from New Jersey and only the fourth popularly elected Black Senator, Cory has helped pass landmark laws that turn the tide against mass incarceration and direct investment into vulnerable communities and has fought on the front line of efforts to reform the broken criminal justice system, increase wages and ensure hard work is fairly rewarded, expand economic opportunity and protect the rights of all Americans to breathe clean air and drink clean water.
While running for president, Cory Booker has advanced a bold agenda that will expand opportunity and extend justice to every American:
Unveiling the most sweeping gun violence prevention proposal ever put forth by a presidential candidate
Unveiling a plan to confront hate crimes and white supremacy in America.
Unveiling that on day one, he will begin a historic clemency process for an estimated 17,000-plus nonviolent drug offenders serving unjust and excessive sentences.
Unveiling that on day one, he will virtually end the crisis at the border and in detention centers across the country with executive action
Proposing a $3 trillion plan to combat climate change and create a 100% carbon neutral economy, millions of good-paying jobs, and a guaranteed right to clean air, water, and soil for all Americans
Unveiling a series of executive actions he will take as president to stop the attacks and roll back the Trump administration’s attacks on women
Unveiling Baby Bonds, Booker’s proposal to give every American child a savings account at birth that can be used for opportunity-building expenses like college tuition or a down payment on a house
Proposing the Rise Credit, the most dramatic reimagining and expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit in history
Proposing the basis of a new Voting Rights Act that would accomplish three major goals: protect the right to vote, make it easier to vote, and expand voting access to those to whom it has been denied
Unveiling a plan to provide safe, affordable housing for all Americans
Unveiling a plan to expand access to high-quality, affordable, long-term services and supports
