With New CNN Poll, Julián Castro Qualifies for September Debates
SAN ANTONIO, TX (August 20, 2019) – On Tuesday, August 20, presidential candidate and former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, qualified for the September Democratic Debates, after securing the required fourth qualifying poll. In July, Secretary Castro secured the required 130,000 grassroots donors needed to qualify for the debates.
“With two standout debate performances, Secretary Castro has been building momentum for his candidacy," said campaign manager Maya Rupert. “He has never wanted to be a ‘flash in the pan’ candidate, but rather has continued to build support and momentum by leading the field on critical issues and showing voters every day why he’s the best candidate to go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump.”
Secretary Castro had previously qualified in national polls from Washington Post/ABC News and NBC News, and an Iowa poll from CBS News.
Yesterday, Secretary Castro became the first candidate in the 2020 presidential field to unveil a platform focused on advancing the welfare of animals around the globe, both domestic and wild. Today, Secretary Castro will join Indigenous leaders from across the nation in Sioux City, Iowa to discuss his vision for native communities, as well as his People First Indigenous Communities policy--the first-of-its-kind in the 2020 field.
Following his remarks at the Native American Presidential Forum, Secretary Castro will speak at the Every Child Matters “Caucus for Kids” Roundtable in Des Moines, speak to workers and labor leaders at the Iowa AFL-CIO convention in Altoona, and tour a wind turbine manufacturer in Newton.
