Seattle – This week, Washington Governor Jay Inslee will travel to Chicago and Las Vegas, holding events in support of a $15 minimum wage and action on climate change. Inslee’s recently released Evergreen Economy Plan proposed 28 detailed initiatives to support workers and a clean energy economy, including a national $15 per hour minimum wage by 2024.

On Thursday, May 23rd, at 10:45 AM CT, Inslee will travel to Chicago, Illinois, to march with McDonald’s workers striking for higher wages at McDonald’s headquarters. At 11:00 AM CT, Inslee will give remarks in front of the corporate offices in support of local workers striking and the Fight for Fifteen and will share his plan to strengthen workers’ rights, revive unions, and raise the minimum wage. Inslee will be joined by local McDonald’s workers and labor leaders.

Next, Inslee will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, on Friday, May 24th to join the Sunrise Movement for the second Global Youth Climate Strike. At 11:30 AM PT, Inslee, alongside students striking for climate action, will speak outside the Federal Courthouse about the Trump administration’s dangerous environmental policies and his plans to defeat climate change. Inslee previously spoke at the first Global Youth Climate Strike in March.

Later, at 3 PM PT, Inslee will participate in a roundtable meeting with SEIU workers and leaders to discuss their Fight for Fifteen initiative. Inslee will listen to workers’ experiences, share details of his Evergreen Economy Plan, and discuss his leadership and successful efforts fighting for a higher minimum wage in Washington, which is tied for the highest state minimum wage in America.

Inslee, who is the only presidential candidate who has made defeating climate change and building a clean energy economy the cornerstone of his campaign, has been making stops to speak with voters across the country as part of his “Climate Mission Tour.” He recently announced his “100% Clean Energy for America” and "Evergreen Economy" plans, and since launching his campaign in March, has visited Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, Texas, California, New York, and Oregon.

WASHINGTON – Sen. Bernie Sanders will return to New Hampshire next week for a two day swing. The trip will follow a Saturday rally in Montpelier highlighting Sanders’ career in public service and the impact it’s had on Vermont through the years.

He will begin the swing on Monday with three ice cream socials for supporters in Warner, Laconia, and Rollinsford. Ben & Jerry’s co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield will introduce the Senator at each event.

The trip continues the following day with town halls in Concord and Londonderry, and caps off with a rally in Manchester on Tuesday night.

Constance Anastopoulo and Susan Riordan Endorse Kamala Harris for President Following Announcement of First-Of-Its-Kind Equal Pay Plan

Following yesterday's release of Senator Kamala Harris’ plan to close the gender pay gap, South Carolina women leaders Constance Anastopoulo and Susan Riordan have announced their support for Harris’ presidential campaign.

“I’m proud to endorse Kamala Harris for President,” said Anastopoulo. “She understands the economic and social pressures women face in the workplace and has demonstrated she will be a leader on pay equity as well as on the maternal mortality crisis. Her record as California’s Attorney General proves that she is a fighter for all people and I’m excited to join this movement to lift up working families.”

Anastopoulo was the Democratic nominee for Attorney General after serving for 15 years as a senior litigator at a Charleston-area law firm appearing before the S.C. Court of Appeals, the S.C. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. A Professor of Law at the Charleston School of Law, Anastopoulo is active in the fight for gender equality, serving on the Board of Directors of My Sister’s House, Inc., the Advisory Board of the Women and Gender Studies Program at the College of Charleston, and as Vice President of the Charleston Area League of Women Voters. She formerly served as the President of Daughters of Penelope Philanthropy which operates a shelter for women fleeing domestic abuse.

“As Republicans attempt to strip women of the economic, reproductive, and social gains we have fought for, Kamala Harris has been a champion for equality and progress,” said Riordan. “Her plan to eliminate the pay gap and her commitment to fighting for universal paid family and medical leave make me proud to endorse her campaign to move South Carolina, and our nation, forward.”

Riordan is a co-founder of Emerge South Carolina, the Palmetto State's premier organization that recruits, trains and provides a powerful network to Democratic women seeking office. She currently serves as the Chair of its Development Committee in addition to working with the United Way of Greenville County and Upstate Forever.

“I am proud to have earned the support of Constance Anastopoulo and Susan Riordan, two leaders who have spent their lives advocating for gender equality,” Harris said. “South Carolina women lose $10 billion every year due to pay inequity. That’s not right and it’s why I’ve put forward the most aggressive equal pay proposal in our country’s history to close the pay gap between women and men. I’m excited to work with Constance and Susan to fight discrimination in the workplace as I campaign across South Carolina.”

Harris has previously been endorsed by I.S. Leevy Johnson, Bakari Sellers, Senator Darrell Jackson, Senator John Scott, Representative JA Moore, Representative Pat Henegen, former gubernatorial candidate Marguerite Willis, and Berkeley County Democratic Chair Melissa Watson.

Biden for President Releases New Data on Digital Fundraising

This morning, Biden for President released new data on its robust digital fundraising operation, the first data reveal since the campaign reported it raised more than any other Democratic 2020 presidential campaign in its first 24 hours. Today’s announcement comes just days after the campaign’s official kickoff rally in Philadelphia this past Saturday, where Vice President Biden laid out his vision for unifying America with respected leadership on the world stage – and dignified leadership at home.

The following data is accurate to date as of Sunday, May 19:
• Approximately two-thirds of all donors are new to the campaign’s list
• 97% of all donations are under $200
• Nearly two-thirds of campaign donors have given less than $25 total
• The campaign has donors from every U.S. state, territory and congressional district
• Over 8,000 teachers and educators have donated to the campaign, the largest number of any occupation
• The campaign's largest hour of grassroots fundraising since the campaign launch came on Saturday during the Philly kickoff rally, raising more than $1,000 per minute

“Our fundraising has been driven by rapid, massive growth over the last month,” said Brandon English, Senior Advisor, Biden for President. “We're grateful for the overwhelming grassroots support we're seeing through our digital outreach, the majority of which comes from donors brand new to our list. We're continuing to build a robust digital operation that brings new voters to Team Joe and puts our campaign in a position of strength to take on Donald Trump.”

In April, Biden for President raised $6.3 million in its first 24 hours, topping every other 2020 presidential campaign in the first true 24 hours of fundraising. The final number included 107,431 online donations from 96,926 individuals in all 50 states. 65,000 donations came from individuals who are new and did not originate from existing email lists – a majority of the day’s online donations, and an unprecedented number for the first day of a campaign.

Additionally, this past Sunday, Axios reported that Biden for President is the first 2020 Democratic presidential campaigns to surpass Donald Trump’s reelection campaign in online advertising spending on Facebook and Google.

First Iowa Elected Official Endorses Kamala Harris, Pointing to Her Equal Pay Plan

Today, Coralville City Councilwoman Meghann Foster announced her endorsement of Senator Kamala Harris in her run for president. Foster, a mother of five, a small business owner, and a University of Iowa educator, points to Harris’ policies like her new equal pay plan as why she is coming out early for Harris. Foster is the first elected official in Iowa to endorse Harris.

“I’m excited to be supporting Kamala Harris in the Iowa Caucus,” Foster said. “Senator Harris’s plans to close the gender pay gap, increase teacher pay, provide tax relief for the middle class, and her advocacy on behalf of affordable housing are things that are important to me as both a local leader and a mom. She is focused and fearless, and I’m excited to get to work on behalf of her candidacy.”

“I’m so grateful to have Meghann’s support in this race,” Harris said. “She understands what Iowa families are facing every day, and I know that together we can build a better future for all of our children. That starts with ensuring women earn the wages they deserve and our teachers are supported in the classroom.”

Harris will return to Iowa on Thursday for her fourth trip to the state since announcing her candidacy. She will discuss her equal pay policy throughout the visit. In Iowa, women are paid just 79 cents for every dollar paid to men.
