Joe Biden for President Announces Key Campaign Staff for Nevada

Today, Biden for President is announcing key staff hires for the campaign's efforts in Nevada, which will be led by Hilary Barrett, as State Director, who will oversee the day-to-day operations across the state.

"I am thrilled to be joining Vice President Biden’s campaign as State Director and I’m very excited to get to work with this incredible team,” said Barrett. “Nevada is going to play a crucial role in the Democratic nominating process and the plethora of diverse experience our new state staff brings to this campaign is going to be invaluable on our road ahead.”

Key Nevada Campaign Hires

Hilary Barrett - State Director
Hilary Barrett brings a wealth of Nevada experience to the Biden campaign, having served in multiple roles for the Nevada Democratic Party from 2015 to 2016, as the Deputy Political Director in Nevada for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and as Director of Scheduling for Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. Hilary most recently served as the Director of Operations and Scheduling for John Chiang's campaign for governor of California, and as Campaign Manager for Joseph Kopser's targeted congressional campaign in Texas.

Jennifer Sosa - Organizing Director
Jennifer Sosa was most recently the Western Regional Field Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She previously served as the Field Director of the California Democratic Party, and as the Campaign Manager and Field Director on numerous campaigns in California.

Lucia Nunez - Deputy Organizing Director
Lucia Nunez most recently served as the Field Director for Congressman Josh Harder's targeted congressional race in California. In 2016, Lucia was a Senior Field Organizer for Rep. Ami Bera’s successful Congressional campaign in California, and previously worked as a Research Associate for Brilliant Corners Research & Strategy.

Vedant Patel - Communications Director
Vedant Patel brings extensive communications experience throughout the western United States, most recently serving as the Communications Director for Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Congressman Mike Honda of California. From 2017 to 2018, Vedant served as the Director of AAPI Media and as a Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee.

Isabel Aldunate - Press Secretary
Isabel Aldunate most recently served as the Deputy National Press Secretary for United States Senator Chuck Schumer, and as the Deputy Press Secretary for Andrew Gillum's campaign for governor in Florida. Isabel has also served in communications roles with the Maryland Clean Energy Center, the Climate Action Campaign, and the American Council on Renewable Energy.

On Saturday, May 4, Biden delivered remarks in Columbia, South Carolina at the Hyatt Park Community Center, that focused on his vision for rebuilding America’s middle class and bringing the country together. Beto O'Rourke Returns for Three Days of Grassroots Events Across the State *Updated

Beto O'Rourke will return to New Hampshire on Thursday for his third trip to the state since announcing his candidacy for President of the United States. His three-day drive through the Granite State will include events in Salem, Hookset, Hanover, Bedford, Exeter, and Dover. During his first trip to the state, O’Rourke visited all ten counties of New Hampshire in two days.

Prior to arriving on Thursday, O’Rourke will complete a four-day drive through Iowa -- also his third to date -- with grassroots events in the southwest, central, and northeast regions of the state.

Since announcing his bid for the White House in March, O’Rourke has held 126 events with tens of thousands of Americans in 101 cities across 13 states and the District of Columbia. O’Rourke has personally driven over 4,900 miles as his grassroots campaign has criss-crossed the United States answering more than 750 questions from voters.

Last weekend, during a trip to California’s Central Valley, O’Rourke released a bold and ambitious plan to confront climate change. The plan has been praised by environmental groups across the country and was called “the most comprehensive climate policy proposal put out by any 2020 contender to date.”

Earlier this week, a new CNN-SSRS poll showed O’Rourke leading President Trump by 10 points in a general election matchup — the largest margin of any democratic candidate.

Bernie Sanders Unveils Plan To Rebuild Rural America

OSAGE, Iowa – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders today unveiled a comprehensive plan to rebuild and reinvest in rural America. In a speech at the Mitchell County Fairgrounds in Osage, Iowa, Sanders outlined a detailed blueprint to protect farmers from monopolistic agribusiness corporations and climate change, and to focus more federal investments on rural communities that have too often been ignored by Washington.

“While corporate profits soar in agribusiness, while merger after merger gives even more power to a handful of huge conglomerates, thousands of family farmers are forced off their land every year because the prices they get for their products are lower than the cost of production,” Sanders said. “Tragically, instead of seeing good jobs, education and health care coming into our rural communities, we are far too often seeing desperation and depression - and a terrible increase in suicide and opioid addiction. We need to turn this around. We cannot create an economy that works for all Americans if we continue to neglect the needs of rural America.”

Much of Sanders’ plan deals with the agriculture sector, which is a primary source of income for one in 5 rural counties across the country. As large agribusiness corporations have been permitted to consolidate and vertically integrate, farmers today now receive the lowest share of consumers’ food dollar in recorded history. Meanwhile, rural communities have been ravaged by pollution. To reverse the trend, Sanders would:

• Intensify antitrust enforcement to block new monopolistic mergers and ban contract farming

• Protect farmers from predatory patent lawsuits from seed corporations.

• Reform farm subsidies so that the majority aren’t going to giant farms, but to small- and mid-sized farms.

• Restrict foreign ownership of American farmland, which poses economic threats to farmers and also raises national security concerns about the food supply.

• Stop effectively exempting factory farms from the anti-pollution laws that other large-scale industrial operations face, and take action against corporations whose products are creating herbicide drift and polluting organic farms.

A separate part of Sanders’ plan deals with reinvesting in rural economies and communities. Sanders proposes to increase funding for rural teacher pay and for rural public education including ESL programs, classes for students with disabilities, student transportation and college accredited classes.

As president, Bernie will pass his recently introduced legislation to increase funding for community health centers and invest more resources in the national health service corps, which extends health care into underserved areas. Sanders also proposes to expand labor and workplace protections for farmworkers and protect them from Trump’s deportation machine.
