Kamala Harris to Return to South Carolina to Campaign in the Upstate on Tuesday, May 28, 2019
On Tuesday, May 28, Senator Kamala Harris will return to South Carolina to campaign in the Upstate. Harris will continue to highlight her proposal to increase the average pay for a South Carolina teacher by 19 percent in order to fully close the pay gap between teachers and comparable professionals. She will also highlight the Rent Relief Act which would create a new, refundable tax credit to put more money in the pockets of families at a time when renters’ wages have remained stagnant and housing costs have increased rapidly in the Upstate region. A Vox analysis found the plan would lift more than two million Americans out of deep poverty.
Harris has previously held town halls and meet and greets in several locations across the state including Rock Hill, Orangeburg, Holly Hill, Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Hemingway, and St. George. She also visited several women-owned businesses, stopped by Rodney Scott’s BBQ for lunch, held a teacher pay roundtable and attended the Pink Ice Gala with her fellow AKAs in Columbia.
Additional details about the events on this trip will be released soon.
