Kamala Harris to Campaign in Western and Central Iowa on May 23 and 24, 2019 *Postponed
Senator Kamala Harris will campaign in Western and Central Iowa May 23 and 24. On Thursday, May 23, she will join Woodbury County Democrats for a Truman Club event in Sioux City, followed by a public town hall at Morningside College. On Friday, May 24, she will host a meet and greet in Council Bluffs and stop by the Asian Heritage Festival, “CelebrAsian,” in Des Moines. CelebrAsian is hosted by the Iowa Asian Alliance and is the largest Asian-American event in the state.
This will be Harris’ fourth trip to Iowa since announcing her candidacy for president of the United States.
Throughout her visit, Harris will discuss her new proposal out this week to close the gender pay gap by holding corporations accountable for equal pay. Harris will also discuss her plan to give the average Iowa teacher a $12,200 raise by the end of her first term, her plans to combat climate change and to address the student debt crisis, among others. This trip will be another opportunity for Iowans to hear directly from Harris about her vision for America and ask her questions about important issues.
