Harris To Focus On Justice In NAACP Speech Sunday And Teacher Pay In Events Monday Marking Start Of Teacher Appreciation Week; She Will Be Joined By Randi Weingarten, Michigan Teachers On Monday
On Sunday, May 5, and Monday, May 6, Senator Kamala Harris will campaign in Michigan. In this important battleground state, which will hold its Democratic primary in early March, Harris will lay out her vision to restore truth and justice in America, and lay out her plan to give the average teacher a $13,500 raise by the end of her first term.
On Sunday, she will be the featured speaker at the 64th Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner hosted by the Detroit Branch NAACP. The Detroit Branch is the largest NAACP branch in the country.
On Monday, the first day of Teacher Appreciation Week, she will spend the day focusing on her plan to give every teacher in America a raise. Joined by American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten, AFT Michigan President David Hecker and Michigan educators, she will visit a Dearborn area public school, followed by participating in an educators’ town hall where she will answer questions from teachers about the issues affecting their lives and the importance of raising teacher salaries.
