Beto O'Rourke Returns to Iowa Wednesday For Four-Day Drive Through the State With Nearly Two Dozen Community-Level Events
EL PASO, TEXAS -- Beto O'Rourke will return to Iowa on Wednesday for his second trip to the state since announcing his candidacy for president only 18 days ago. His four-day drive through the state will include nearly two dozen grassroots events as he visits Ames, Carroll, Denison, Sioux City, Storm Lake, Fort Dodge, Marshalltown, Grinnell, Des Moines, Iowa City and other communities.
Continuing to host town halls where he has the opportunity to meet with, listen to and learn from Iowans in their communities, O'Rourke will spend Saturday attending an all-day series of half a dozen neighborhood-level house parties across the Des Moines metro area. He will also continue his emphasis on showing up for, and following the lead of, students with town hall meetings at Iowa State University, Grinnell, Morningside College, Iowa Central Community College and the University of Iowa.
The visit follows O'Rourke's 837 mile, three-day drive across Iowa that took his campaign to 13 counties including eight counties that voted for President Obama in 2012 before voting for Donald Trump in 2016. Since starting his presidential campaign in Keokuk, O'Rourke has visited nine states as he held events in Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada and Texas.
He will be in Washington, DC today for the We the People Membership Summit and New York City on Wednesday for the National Action Network Annual Conference before heading to Iowa.
O'Rourke officially kicked off his campaign on Saturday with rallies in his hometown of El Paso, Houston and Austin. More than 1,000 organizing parties across the country tuned in to watch from every state and territory. In his remarks, he shared his unifying vision for bridging divides and bringing together Americans from all walks of life to overcome the greatest set of challenges this country has ever faced. His remarks focused on the urgent need to take on powerful special interests to address the most profound issues facing the nation including climate change, criminal justice reform, access to universal, guaranteed, high-quality health care, immigration laws that reflect our values and ensuring that our economy works for all Americans.
