Kamala Harris to Hold South Carolina Teacher Pay Roundtable
On Tuesday April 30th, Senator Kamala Harris will join educators and community leaders for a roundtable discussion focused on the importance of raising teacher pay. Harris will highlight her recent proposal to increase the average pay for a South Carolina teacher by 19 percent in order to fully close the pay gap between teachers and comparable professionals. In South Carolina, nearly 13 percent of teachers work a second job and the average teacher makes $9,300 less than similar professionals make in the state.
This is Harris’s fifth visit to South Carolina as a presidential candidate. She previously held town halls and meet and greets in several locations across the state including Rock Hill, Orangeburg, Holly Hill, Charleston, Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Hemingway, and St. George. She also visited several women-owned businesses, stopped by Rodney Scott’s BBQ for lunch, and attended the Pink Ice Gala with her fellow AKAs in Columbia.
