Julián Castro Makes Third Trip Iowa on April 14-15, 2019
SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 9, 2019) – This Sunday and Monday, April 14-15, presidential candidate and former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary under President Obama and San Antonio Mayor, Julián Castro, will travel to Iowa for his third trip to the first-in-the-nation caucus state since announcing his candidacy. Secretary Castro’s Iowa trip follows Secretary Castro’s participation in a town hall with CNN’s Don Lemon on Thursday, April 11, and after he holds a People First rally in San Antonio in conjunction with President Trump’s visit to San Antonio on Wednesday, April 10.
On Sunday, April 14, Secretary Castro will meet with local Democrats in Scott County and Muscatine, and participate in a podcast taping with Political Party Live. On Monday, April 15, Secretary Castro will travel to Des Moines to tour the Central Campus Skilled Trade Alliance and attend a reception hosted by the Asian and Latino Coalition. In Iowa, Secretary Castro will outline his vision for a more inclusive and prosperous nation, one where every American can live up to their potential.
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, Secretary Castro became the first 2020 Democratic candidate to unveil an immigration policy. The ‘People First Immigration’ policy, released via Medium, would overhaul our immigration system, create a more just and compassionate border policy, and establish a 21st century Marshall Plan for Central America to re-engage our Latin American partners and address the root causes of migration.
