Greater Denver Ministerial Alliance Endorses Hickenlooper
DENVER, CO - Today, the Greater Denver Ministerial Alliance (GDMA) officially endorsed former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper in his campaign for president.
"The Governor has a strong commitment to social justice. He has repeatedly worked with the faith community to address the difficult issues facing communities of color all over our country. We're excited to endorse him and we look forward to sharing our experiences with Governor Hickenlooper with faith-based coalitions across the country," said GDMA President, Pastor Jerry Demmer.
As Mayor of Denver, Hickenlooper worked closely with GDMA to initiate a number of reforms aimed at reducing lethal force and bias in policing — including, crisis de-escalation training, arming officers with non-lethal defense tools, strengthening disciplinary procedures, creating a Citizen Oversight Board and an Office of Independent Monitor, and hiring a minority recruiter for the first time in the Denver Police Department’s history.
"GDMA has been an invaluable partner for the last 16 years, during my time as Mayor and then as Governor. I'm honored to have their support and I am excited to advance the work we did in Colorado across the nation," said Hickenlooper.
