Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar to Headline Ankeny Area Democrats Winter Banquet and Fundraiser
On February 21, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar will headline the Ankeny Area Democrats Winter Banquet and Fundraiser. "The people from the Heartland believe in hard work, telling it like it is, and getting things done. That's true in Minnesota where I grew up, and that's true across the border in Iowa. We have a lot to get done in the days, weeks, and months ahead. And I can't wait to talk with the Democrats in Ankeny about just that," Klobuchar said.
As the daughter of a newspaperman and an elementary school teacher, and the granddaughter of an iron ore miner, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has been guided by what she learned growing up in the Midwest. She's the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota, and one of the most effective members of the United States Senate. She has led landmark legislation to combat the opioid epidemic, support farmers, and take on big interests like the pharmaceutical companies. During the last Congress, she was ranked first out of all Senators with the most bills signed into law.
“Ankeny is exactly the kind of suburb Democrats need to win to be successful in 2020,” said Andrea Phillips, Ankeny resident and Vice Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party. “People think of Ankeny as being conservative, but it’s trending Democratic. In 2018, Democrat Heather Matson flipped House District 37, and Amber Gustafson came within 3 points of Republican incumbent and Senate President Jack Whitver.”
For over 10 years, the Ankeny Area Democrats have held the Winter Banquet and Fundraiser, attracting elected officials and activists from across the metro. “We’re incredibly excited to have Senator Klobuchar headlining our event,” said Mary McAdams, Acting Chair of the Ankeny Area Democrats. “People really liked what she had to say when she visited to help our local candidates in 2018.”
Ankeny is the 4th fastest growing city in the U.S.
Tickets to the event are $30 ($15 for students) and are available at www.AnkenyAreaDemocrats.org. It will be held at United Auto Workers of America Local 450, 4589 NW 6th Dr, Des Moines, Iowa 50313.
