Tom Steyer to Bring 5 Rights Tour to Iowa
Will meet with community leaders, host discussion on the right to learn
Des Moines, IA — On Wednesday, January 9th, Tom Steyer will travel to Iowa to meet with Iowa leaders, educators, teachers, and students and host a town hall meeting in Ankeny to discuss the third of his five rights: the right to learn. At the town hall, Steyer will hear about Iowans’ experiences with their education system and discuss the right of every American to free, comprehensive public education -- from pre-K to college and advanced skills training -- to ensure that everyone has access to the tools necessary to create a better life for themselves. Before the town hall, Steyer will meet with several Iowa-based organizations, including the Iowa Asian and Latino Coalition, to discuss the right to learn and what Democrats should focus on ahead of 2020.
This is Steyer’s third event focused on the 5 Rights, following similar events in Charleston, SC and Fresno, CA to discuss the right to an equal vote and the right to clean air and water, respectively. Steyer is calling on Democrats to champion the people’s positive vision of the future that focuses on the 5 Rights: the right to an equal vote in a fair democracy; the right to clean air and clean water; the right to learn, from pre-K through college and advanced skills training; the right to earn a living wage; and the right to health.
