North Carolina Republican Party Names Ricky Diaz as Senior Communications Advisor
Raleigh, N.C. – Today, Executive Director Todd Poole announced that Ricky Diaz has joined the North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) as senior communications advisor. Diaz joins the NCGOP after having held various communications positions with North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and United States Senator Richard Burr. He most recently served as vice president of FP1 Strategies, a leading public affairs and political consulting firm in Washington, D.C., where he consulted on a wide variety of political, public affairs, policy and communications issues.
“As executive director, I have a responsibility to recruit top talent to the state party,” said Todd Poole. “Ricky’s extensive political, policy and campaign experience in addition to his deep knowledge of the state will be invaluable as we prepare to build on the gains made during the 2014 election. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
“I am excited to be returning to North Carolina to join the NCGOP team,” said Ricky Diaz. “The NCGOP is a robust operation that’s already working around the clock to prepare for 2016. I look forward to helping the Republican Party build on the impressive gains made during the 2014 cycle.”
Prior to joining FP1, Diaz led communications efforts for Governor McCrory’s successful campaign for North Carolina governor before serving in various communications roles at the highest levels of state government. He previously served in the administration of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as director of media affairs, where he focused on building the New Jersey governor’s brand and national profile. Diaz also served as deputy director of communications for U.S. Senator Richard Burr’s 2010 re-election campaign in North Carolina and e-campaign director for Chris Christie’s first campaign for New Jersey governor in 2009.
He is a graduate from Vanderbilt University, where he studied economics and Mandarin Chinese.
