Rand Paul to Host School Choice Roundtable in Milwaukee on Tuesday, November 10, 2015
WASHINGTON, D.C- Prior to the Fox Business/ Wall Street Journal Republican Presidential Primary debate, Sen. Paul will host a School Choice Roundtable in Milwaukee, the first city to implement school choice programs such as student vouchers.
The senator will appear on a panel alongside representatives from Shining Star Christian Schools, School Choice Wisconsin, Hispanics for School Choice, and parents and students from Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
This is the second School Choice Roundtable Sen. Paul has hosted in the Milwaukee area. He has also held roundtables in Louisville, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Chicago, and Atlanta.
Tuesday's event will take place at Shining Star Christian School, which is new to the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. Founded in 2014, it has grown to serve more than 140 students in grades K-5. Shining Star Christian School features an innovative, blended learning program that keeps students engaged and involved in their own learning. The vision at Shining Star is to utilize school choice to fill empty schools with children who wish to hear the message of the gospel while receiving a high quality education.
"I believe there are two major gaps that threaten the very foundation of our nation's future: access for our children to high quality education and access for our children to faith-based education. School choice helps us bridge these gaps by providing access for families to faith-based education in ways that are innovative, competitive, and affordable. This allows us to provide a full support network for the children of our communities, preparing them to be the serving leaders of our future," said John Mattek, Executive Director of Shining Star Christian Schools.
"America has always been a place where people succeeded and failed not based on the circumstances of their birth, but on their talent, hard work, and discipline. A quality education can't be just a privilege for the wealthy; it should be accessible to all," Sen. Paul said. "During this roundtable, we will discuss how school choice, innovative learning, and student vouchers can transform our school systems, making a world-class education available for all of our children."
