More Than 100 Progressive Leaders in Minnesota Stand with Hillary Clinton
Vice President Walter Mondale, Advocates for LGBT Equality and Iron Rangers Join Statewide Coalition of Support
Minneapolis, MN — Hillary for America today announced its Minnesota Leadership Council has grown to include more than 100 elected officials, community, student, coalition, and grassroots leaders who will help build a grassroots-driven volunteer team that will work to Get Out The Caucus for Hillary between now and March 1st.
Leaders across Minnesota agree that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate to defend women’s rights, stand up to the gun lobby and keep Americans strong and safe while representing our country to the world. The leadership council will continue to amplify the campaign’s national voice to Minnesota families and will continue to aid the campaign with rapid response, organization building, grassroots organizing events, recruiting volunteer leaders, and identifying leaders for Get Out The Caucus activities.
“Secretary Clinton is a proven leader. She is the only candidate in this race with the extensive experience necessary to deliver real results for Americans,” said Vice President Walter Mondale. “As President we can trust her to tackle the demands of the job, both here in America and abroad.”
“From working to pass the Equality Act to building on President Obama’s LGBT agenda, Hillary Clinton is committed to ensuring that all Americans feel like they live in a country where they belong,” said leader of Marriage Equality efforts in Minnesota Richard Carlbom, “When it comes to fighting the tough fights, there’s no one I want in my corner more than Hillary.”
“Hillary has always been a fighter for working families on the Iron Range. She visited Hibbing in 2008 and just last week, while visiting Minnesota, she specifically mentioned helping Iron Rangers through our current economic downturn,” said State Representative Carly Melin. “Her stance against the Trans-Pacific Partnership is a clear signal to families here that we have a candidate who is looking out for our best interests. She strongly supports organized labor because she knows that unions built America's middle class. Hillary not only wants to create jobs, she wants to protect the ones we have--and I trust her to do that as President.”
"When Republicans came out swinging against Planned Parenthood, Hillary didn’t hide,” said Minneapolis Council Member Alondra Cano. “Hillary stood up against the attempts to defund Planned Parenthood because she knows that they provide much needed health care access to many low-income, under-insured and women of color in Minnesota and throughout the country. The White House needs a leader who has spent her lifetime fighting for women's reproductive rights and that leader is Hillary Clinton."
“As First Lady, Hillary took on school violence and strongly advocated for the Brady Bill. As Senator, she co-sponsored legislation to close the gun show loophole and to extend and reinstate the assault weapons ban,” said gun violence prevention advocate Sami Rahamim. "As President, I know we can trust her to continue to stand up to the gun lobby and put Minnesota families first.”
"I like Hillary a lot. Her old-fashioned idealism, her warmth toward people, her steady humor, her smarts. She's a champion," said author and Minnesota radio great Garrison Keillor.
