Local and National Musicians to Perform for Bernie Sanders in Davenport, Iowa on Friday, October 23, 2015
DAVENPORT, Iowa – Musicians and artists from Iowa and across the country are coming together in support of Bernie Sanders. Ahead of the Iowa Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Des Moines, Bernie’s All-Star band will join Senator Sanders on stage on Friday, October 23, 7:30 p.m., at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa.
Members of the recently announced Artists & Cultural Leaders for Bernie Sanders will be leading the all-star band and will include legendary guitarist Wayne Kramer, singer/songwriters Marshall Crenshaw and Jill Sobule, and Iowa’s own Brother Trucker.
Background
Wayne Kramer—Famed guitarist, appearing on the Rolling Stones’ list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time,” and co-founder of MC5 (Motor City 5), a Detroit rock group known for their commanding performances and progressive views.
Marshall Crenshaw—Singer and songwriter, best known for his 1982 Top 40 hit, Someday, Someway. In the 2004, Crenshaw reunited with members of MC5 as a special guest and featured guitarist. He got his first “break” as a musician in 1978 when he played “John Lennon” in the Broadway “rockumentary” Beatlemania.
Jill Sobule—Singer and songwriter, best known for her 1995 original single, I Kissed a Girl, and Supermodel from the movie soundtrack, Clueless. With eleven albums to date, Sobule was a frequent collaborator and touring partner with Warren Zevon.
Brother Trucker—An Iowa-native Americana roots Rock Band, Brother Trucker has recorded three albums with Trailer Records, an influential Iowa independent record label. Since 2000, Brother Trucker has extensively toured the Midwest, playing at a wide range of events including rallies and benefits. Band: Andy Fleming (Lead vocals/guitar, Davenport), Mike Fitzpatrick (Lead guitar/vocals, Davenport), Lyle Hogue (Bass, Ankeny), Matt Jesson (Keyboards/vocals, Bettendorf), and Jim Viner (Drums, West Liberty).
