Santorum and Patriot Voices announces Walt Rogers as Iowa Chairman Iowa House Assistant Majority Leader to lead Patriot Voices grassroots efforts
VERONA, PA - Winner of the 2012 Iowa Republican Caucus, former U.S. Senator, and Chairman of Patriot Voices Rick Santorum announced today that Assistant Majority Leader of the Iowa State House, Walt Rogers (R-Cedar Falls), will serve as Chairman of Patriot Voices in Iowa.
Rick Santorum said: "I am excited to announce the addition of Walt Rogers to our growing Iowa team and I am confident that his support today will again be a terrific lift for our efforts in the Hawkeye State. Like me, Walt understands the importance of not just being a Party of business-owners, but being a Party that fights for the worker and hard-working families. Our movement cannot win unless we recognize that the 90% of Americans who do not own their own business and the 70% of Americans who do not have a college degree need a champion. I am prepared to fight for them and I am thrilled to have Walt Rogers standing side-by-side with me in Iowa."
Walt Rogers said: "I am thrilled to be a part of Senator Santorum's efforts to fight for the American worker and family here in Iowa today. Senator Santorum has been consistent and passionate in his efforts to fight for hard-working families. This is exactly the type of message that resonates here in Iowa, and it is why he defied the Beltway pundits to win our Caucus in 2012. Hard-working Iowa families understand that Rick Santorum is a champion for them and I am looking forward to helping Senator Santorum take this message all across Iowa."
Walt Rogers currently represents the Cedar Falls area in the Iowa State Legislature, being elected by his peers to serve as Assistant Majority Leader, trusting him to manage some of the House's toughest legislation including a government transparency bill that had stalled in the legislature for seven years. Rogers is a nationally sought-after leadership consultant. His work through board memberships in Safe and Drug Free Committee, Alternatives Pregnancy Center, My Waterloo Days and Love Cedar Valley has honed his leadership skills and given him an appreciation for local grassroots efforts. Rogers holds a Bachelor's degree in Technology from the University of Northern Iowa. He and his wife Jenny (Ridder) have three grown children and seven grandchildren.

Iowa GOP Selects Boone's Central Iowa Expo for Straw Poll Location
DES MOINES - The Republican Party of Iowa will host its 2015 Straw Poll at the Central Iowa Expo in Boone, IA., on August 8th. The decision was made this morning during a conference call meeting of the State Central Committee. The final vote was unanimous, with voting members including: Steve Scheffler, Chelle Adkins, David Chung, Ron Herrig, Loras Schulte, Bob Anderson, Trudy Caviness, Judy Davidson, Jarad Klein, Brenna Bird, Ryan Frederick, Bill Gustoff, Sherill Whisenand, Gabe Haugland, Jamie Johnson, Gary Nystrom, and Craig Williams.
“Iowa’s agricultural background has always captured the national imagination, and we feel the Central Iowa Expo will help us showcase this heritage,” Chairman Jeff Kaufmann said. “This venue also allows us to keep ticket prices affordable, ensuring families from across Iowa can participate in this one-of-a-kind event."
The Central Iowa Expo offers: • A central location, only 30 minutes from the Des Moines suburbs and no more than 3 hours from the farthest points of the state. • Ample and close parking, providing a convenient experience for attendees. • An iconic setting well-known throughout Iowa and the Midwest for it’s connection to agriculture. The bucolic surroundings evoke Iowa’s unique history, with a railroad flanking one section and corn and soybean fields surrounding the others. • Competitive pricing, which helps keep ticket prices affordable for attendees and candidates. • The necessary infrastructure to hold a large and nationally important event. Governor Branstad said that Central Iowa Expo’s price will help maintain the event's strong attendance.
“As a former resident of Boone, I couldn't be happier with the Central Committee's selection. Making this event more accessible to every Iowan is an important step in keeping the straw poll a must-attend date on the presidential election calendar,” Governor Branstad said. “Boone is a wonderful town and will make a fantastic host for the 2015 Straw Poll.”
Iowa GOP Co-Chair Cody Hoefert said the Iowa Straw Poll is a unique opportunity for Iowans and presidential candidates.
"The Iowa straw poll is a tradition stretching back decades, with past winners including George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and Mitt Romney," Co-Chair Hoefert said. "It's a family-friendly event that allows Iowans to meet the men and women running to be the next president of the United States. For potential candidates, it's an unparalleled opportunity to meet thousands of caucus goers in one day."
Remaining details of the event will be announced in the coming weeks and months.
Tallahassee, FL —Today, The Right to Rise PAC released a new web video with footage of the PAC’s Honorary Chairman, Governor Jeb Bush, during his recent trip to Iowa. On the road to the Iowa Ag Summit, the video captures Governor Bush driving through the streets of Des Moines describing the impact Iowa’s agriculture industry has on the entire country.
“Much of our nation’s economic success comes from those who are willing to take risks for the sake of innovation,” said Honorary Chairman Jeb Bush. “Iowa farmers epitomize that entrepreneurial spirit, and it’s the government’s role to foster that creativity, not stifle it with more federal regulations.”
CRUZ: You can count on me to do what I say I will do Cruz participates in Iowa Agricultural Summit to talk about farming issues
DES MOINES, IOWA — Today U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, participated in the Iowa Agricultural Summit hosted by Bruce Rastetter. Cruz highlighted issues important to Iowa’s farming communities. Among the topics discussed were the Renewable Fuel Standard, immigration, trade, biotech, and health care.
He struck a chord with the attendees when he showed that he was willing to tell them the truth about where he stands.
“People are pretty fed up, I think, with politicians that run around and tell one group one thing and tell another group another thing, and then they go to Washington and they don’t do anything they said they would do,” Cruz said. “And I think that’s a big part of the reason we have the problems we have in Washington. We have career politicians in both parties who aren’t listening to the American people and that aren’t doing what they said they would do.”
Cruz made it clear that he supports renewable fuels, but could not support policies from Washington that pick winners and losers in the market.
“I have every bit of faith that businesses can continue to compete, can continue to do well, without having to go on bended-knee to Washington asking for subsidies and asking for special favors. I think that’s how we got into this problem to begin with.”
Cruz went on, “There are a lot of politicians who are going to come and tell you whatever you want to hear. And they do that in every environment…and on the stump they sound great.”
“Now I bet I’m not the only person here who’s been disappointed with politicians in Washington, who is tired of people blowing smoke. A few months ago, my wife Heidi and I…took the girls to the Children’s Museum and there was a police officer there…And he walked up to me and said, ‘You know, I didn’t vote for you, but I’ll say this, you’ve done what you said you would do.'”
“And so when I tell you that I will fight with every breath in my body that I will stop the government regulations that are strangling the family farms, that are strangling the ranches, that are strangling the small businesses, killing job growth; when I tell you I will fight to stop the EPA from expanding the waters of the United States; when I tell you that I will fight to stop Obamacare and executive amnesty, then you know you can count on that, that I would do what I said I would do, that I will tell you the truth.”
