RNC Statement Mourning The Passing Of Carson Campaign Worker Braden Joplin

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement upon the death of Dr. Ben Carson campaign worker Braden Joplin:

"Tonight Dr. Ben Carson's campaign, the Republican Party, and the entire nation mourns the loss of 25 year-old Braden Joplin. Although we grieve at the loss of a life cut tragically short, we celebrate all he had achieved during his time with us and his desire to make our country a better place. Regardless of what political party we align with, all of the people putting in hard work on the ground – the volunteers, the drivers, the folks putting up signs and answering calls – are the backbone of any campaign and part of what makes a democracy like ours great. I never met Braden, but he embodied the best which we as a nation stand for. In the midst of an election that will decide the future of our country, it is important to remember the friends and loved ones we hold most dear. We keep his friends and family in our thoughts and prayers tonight."

Dr. Ben Carson's Statement on the Passing of Campaign Volunteer Braden Joplin

Omaha, NE – January 19, 2016 – "One of the precious few joys of campaigning is the privilege of meeting bright young men and women who are so enthusiastic about their country that they will freely give of their time and energy to work on its behalf. America lost one of those bright young men today. I had the privilege of knowing Braden Joplin personally, and am filled with a deep and profound sadness at his passing. While we mourn this profound loss, I am thankful that our other campaign colleagues, Drew McCall, Aaron Ohnemus and Ryan Patrick Shellooe, have all been treated and released from the hospital.

"A presidential candidate asks a lot of his or her volunteers, working long hours in the cold, under-appreciated. They are the unsung heroes of the political process. The outpouring of support for Braden and his family from fellow candidates, as well as their staffs and volunteers, demonstrates that life will always transcend politics, and I thank them for their kind words. Please continue to keep Braden’s family and friends in your prayers as they struggle through this difficult time.

"Even after more than 30 years experience counseling parents and family members in the most difficult of times, it never gets easier. But I find solace in the knowledge of God’s redeeming grace, and I pray that Braden's family finds comfort in the mercy of the Lord. DES MOINES, Iowa – This Saturday, January 23rd, Governor O’Malley will return to Iowa for the third leg of “O’Malley Unplugged: The New Leadership Tour” to welcome students back to campus around the state and lay out his plans to address climate change, cut youth unemployment, and make debt-free college a reality within five years.
 
This is O'Malley's third multi-day trip to Iowa in January, campaigning the Iowa way, as he makes his closing argument on why he is the best candidate to defeat Republicans like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, and build on President Obama’s progress.
 
“O’Malley Unplugged: The New Leadership Tour” features community conversations, potluck dinners, breakfast roundtables and a number of other grassroots style events featuring local musicians, taking the Governor’s skill for retail politics to the next level in the final weeks ahead of the caucuses.
