NEW HAMPSHIRE’S UNION LEADER ENDORSES JOHNSON & WELD
Sept. 15, 2016, Salt Lake City, UT -- Saying Gov. Gary Johnson has a “stellar record as a fiscal conservative in a swing state”, and that Gov. Bill Weld “proved that it’s possible to hold off a big spending Legislature, even in Taxachusetts”, the New Hampshire Union Leader has published an historic endorsement of the Johnson/Weld presidential ticket.
Today's endorsement marks the first time in 100 years that the respected Union Leader has chosen candidates other than the Republican nominees for President and Vice-President.
Publisher Joseph W. McQuaid, in a front page editorial entitled “A better choice for President (No need to hold your nose)”, said, “Libertarians Gary Johnson and Bill Weld are on the ballot in all 50 states. Their records (as Republican governors in politically-divided states) speak well of them. They would be worth considering under many circumstances. In today’s dark times, they are a bright light of hope and reason. The Union Leader and Sunday News endorse them.”

An accompanying editorial in the Union Leader stated, “Don’t waste your vote on candidates who don’t deserve it. Gary Johnson and Bill Weld are the only choice for President and Vice President.

Expressing his appreciation for the historic endorsement, Gov. Johnson said, “All across the country, voters are looking for an alternative to the polarizing candidates of the Republican and Democratic Parties. To have a newspaper with the history, tradition and respect of the Union Leader endorse Bill Weld and me as reasonable, credible choices is a huge boost, and we deeply appreciate it.
“Our task is to take our message of fiscal restraint and individual freedom to every voter, and as we do, we find a great many Americans share the sentiments of the Union Leader. To have earned this historic endorsement is truly gratifying.”
