Statement from Minnesota DFL Chairman on President Obama’s Farewell Address
“Tonight’s speech reminds us once again of how lucky we’ve been to have such a dedicated, even-tempered public servant leading our country for the past 8 years. The Obama Administration set out to build a country that gave every family an equal opportunity to succeed and throughout all his trials and tribulations, President Obama continued to prioritize his plan for a better future for America’s families over partisan bickering and political games.
“As we look back on President Obama’s two terms in office, we can definitively say that his presidency will go down as one of the most accomplished in our country’s recent history. In the face of extreme Republican opposition, President Obama not only brought us out of the Great Recession but has ensured steady economic growth ever since. He worked to make the unemployment rate less than half of where it peaked in the Great Recession, helped give people health care no matter their background, partnered with global leaders to protect our planet for generations to come, and successfully passed Wall Street reform.
“As we witness the beginning of a new administration that seeks to undo all the progress we’ve made over the past 8 years, we must continue to carry President Obama’s inspiring message of hope with us. That is the best way to honor the legacy of our 44th president.”
