DNC Statement on the Passing of John Glenn
WASHINGTON - DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement:
“Senator John Glenn was an American hero, a true pioneer, a fearless soldier, a dedicated public servant, and the embodiment of our shared national spirit of adventure. Reaching the rank of full colonel in the Marine Corps, he put his life on the line fighting for his country in two wars. As a four-term Democratic U.S. Senator, he proudly served the people of Ohio and strived to make the planet more peaceful and to keep it free from nuclear war. But more than any other achievement, John Glenn will be remembered for becoming the first American to orbit the planet in 1962. That same year, President Kennedy said that the conquest of space deserves the best of all mankind. John Glenn was our best. His legacy will live on in the imagination of every American who yearns for new horizons and reaches for the stars. Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s friends and family as we all mourn his passing.”
