Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin statement on tonight's debate
Hillary Clinton showed tonight why she is the clear choice for America. Beyond her comprehensive grasp of the issues, she displayed the poise, steadiness and clarity of purpose needed to move this country forward.
At this point it should be clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that Donald Trump is historically unfit to be president. His reprehensible attitudes towards women, people of color, immigrants and people with disabilities, coupled with his unstable temperament make him perhaps the most toxic candidate in presidential history. He has dragged the Party of Lincoln into the gutter and too late Republicans are deserting him en masse.
Unfortunately Donald Trump’s type of thinking is becoming all too common in the GOP. Their candidates up and down the ballot in Minnesota, from Nolan West to Stewart Mills and Jason Lewis have said things equally offensive, if not worse than Trump. This election we need to send a message to our children that hate, misogyny and bigotry will not be tolerated in our communities, in our state and in our country.
