Statement from Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin on Passing of Former Gov. Wendell Anderson

“Today, DFLers across the state lost a role model, proven leader, and a friend in former Governor Wendell Anderson. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family who are mourning the loss of their father, husband, and grandfather.

“Fmr. Gov. Anderson was a dedicated public servant who wanted to leave Minnesota better off for the next generation. As one of the youngest elected officials in Minnesota’s history, Gov. Anderson will be most remembered for his landmark legislation-known as the Minnesota Miracle- that equalized school funding and ensured that every student, no matter their zipcode, had access to the same quality education.

“Gov. Anderson showed us early on that in putting Minnesotans first, we can’t lose. His leadership made Minnesota a model around the nation for how to create the ‘good life’ for its citizens. Thank you, Gov. Anderson for your lifetime of public service-you led a good life and more importantly created a good life for thousands of Minnesotans.
