Statement from DFL Chairman Ken Martin on Trump’s VP Pick
“Today, Donald Trump announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence will be his Vice Presidential running mate. This decision is Trump’s way of appeasing the Republican establishment and doubling down on his discriminatory politics and failed economic policies all while ensuring he won’t have to share the limelight with his running mate.
“Mike Pence has poorly represented Indiana’s families since he was first elected as a Congressman in 2000. For the past 16 years, Pence and his disastrous policies have left Hoosiers worse off. He’s alienated businesses and divided communities by backing toxic and discriminatory legislation that helped the rich get richer and left families behind. Pence has cut corporate taxes by nearly 25%, opposed raising the minimum wage, championed one of the country’s most outrageous abortion bans, and signed Indiana’s extreme anti-LGBT law.
“A Donald Trump-Mike Pence administration would drag our country backwards and leave families worse off.
“Over the past 7 years, our country has experienced tremendous social and economic growth, and Americans are safer because of President Obama’s policies. Our next president must continue to move our country forward and focus on building an economy that works for everyone, not just a wealthy few.”
