Statement From DFL Chairman Ken Martin on Sec. Clinton’s Vice Presidential Nominee
"Today, Sec. Hillary Clinton announced Sen. Tim Kaine as her nominee for vice president. We couldn’t be more proud to have such an experienced, sensible, and accomplished team to lead our party going into our national convention and general election. Sen. Kaine is a dedicated public servant who has the background and leadership bona fides necessary to serve as the next Vice President of the United States.
"Sen. Kaine was born here in Saint Paul and was raised by hardworking parents in Kansas City with strong progressive values. As a former Mayor, Governor, and now as a U.S. Senator, Tim Kaine has a 20 year record of making a real difference in people’s lives through public service. American families are ready for another administration that will help usher in a new era that is built on the idea that we are stronger together than we are apart.
"In the wake of the terrible tragedy we’re watching unfold in Germany, we are reminded of how critical this election is. Our next president has a tough job ahead of them and the world is counting on us to continue standing together against hatred.
"Last night, Trump painted a bleak picture of America and offered no solution other than we should trust him to fix everything. While paying lip service to every community he’s attacked over the last year, Trump reinforced the idea that we can and we must do better than his divisive rhetoric and dangerous policies.
"For the past seven years, President Obama and Vice President Biden have created an economy that works for everyone and a government that we can all rely on. Sec. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Kaine’s administration will build on these accomplishments and continue moving our country forward."
