Progressive State and Local Officials and Minnesota Bernie Sanders Supporters Endorse Hillary Clinton
Progressive state and local officials, including Bernie Sanders supporters, are coming together to endorse Hillary Clinton because she is the strong, steady and progressive leadership our country needs.
In endorsing Clinton, Sanders spoke of his friendship with her—from Senate colleague to presidential campaign rival—and stressed their shared vision for an America that is stronger together, with an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.
Current and former Minnesota legislators, along with progressive leaders across the state, released the following letter in support of Hillary Clinton:
We are proud to announce our endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President of the United States.
In this historic election year, Hillary Clinton will provide leadership on many important issues that reflect our progressive values.
Her support of a debt-free college tuition plan that includes free tuition at public colleges and universities for working families; her ongoing support for critical health care needs, including low-cost prescription drugs; and her advocacy for a public option to provide universal health care coverage are important milestones in building a progressive agenda.
Ms. Clinton's strong positions on promoting renewable energy and curbing climate change; providing unwavering support for human and civil rights for communities of color and Native Americans, women and LGBTQ people; and increasing the minimum wage and addressing income inequality are all matters of urgent concern to our constituents. Her commitment to end unfair trade deals and to overhaul campaign finance practices that favor the wealthy special interests are key to our support.
Secretary Clinton's support of common sense measures to reduce gun violence and address racial disparities is particularly timely as well. We are proud that she and Senator Sanders worked together on drafting the most progressive party platform ever put forward by the Democratic Party.
We are at a critical crossroads in our state and nation. Donald Trump's reckless and deeply divisive rhetoric is contributing to a disturbing level of polarization in our society. Hillary Clinton will provide the strong, steady leadership our country needs. Her foreign policy experience and relationships with world leaders will serve our country well in an increasingly complex and shifting world order.
We stand stronger together with Hillary, and will work tirelessly in our communities to ensure her election as President of the United States this November.
