Hillary Clinton to Hold Discussion on Substance Abuse and Addiction in Charleston, West Virginia on Tuesday May 3, 2016
Charleston, WV – On Tuesday May 3 Hillary Clinton will meet with community leaders, practitioners, and persons and family members who have struggled with addiction, to discuss the substance abuse epidemic in West Virginia and what do to about it. Throughout her campaign, Clinton has heard from countless voices about the devastating effects of substance abuse and addiction, particularly due to opioid abuse, in communities across the country.
Last September, Clinton put forward a $10 billion initiative to combat America’s deadly epidemic of drug and alcohol addiction. It sets forth ambitious goals to prevent and treat substance use disorders, to prioritize treatment over incarceration, and to support people in recovery, and promote better practices by prescribers. Clinton’s initiative provides multi-faceted federal policy leadership and substantial financial incentives to states to achieve those goals through cooperative partnerships.
