Former North Carolina Congressman, Party Chairman & Huckabee Campaign Chair Bill Cobey Endorses John Kasich for President
Today former Congressman Bill Cobey, a veteran Republican leader and public official from North Carolina, announced he has joined Governor John Kasich's presidential campaign as a member of the Kasich for America Steering
Committee.
Said Cobey, "While serving in Congress with John Kasich, I was able to observe
firsthand his extraordinary ability and energy to get things done. John is a
proven executive and legislative leader who will make an exceptional president. He has my enthusiastic support."
In addition to his service in Congress, where he represented North Carolina’s 4th
District from 1985-87, Cobey has built one of his state’s most distinguished public
service and political resumes. Currently serving as chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Education and as a member of Gov. Pat McCrory’s education cabinet, he previously held two key cabinet secretary positions in former Gov. James Martin’s administration.
Cobey previously served as Governor Mike Huckabee's North Carolina Campaign Chair in 2008 and 2016. The Chapel Hill resident also served two terms as Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and was his party’s nominee for Lt. Governor in 1980. In the 2004 election, Cobey was a leading candidate for the Republican nomination for governor.
Said Kasich, "I'm grateful to my friend and former colleague Bill Cobey for his support. His extensive experience in North Carolina politics has given him an exceptional understanding of the issues that matters most to voters. I have no doubt that Bill will be an invaluable asset for our campaign going forward."
