DNC Chair Statement on Tonight’s GOP Debate
WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement on tonight’s GOP debate:
“Even though the Republican field has been cut in half, their ongoing shouting match seemed twice as loud tonight. Worse yet, just hours after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, most of the Republican candidates for president stood on the debate stage and politicized his passing. And like a broken record or malfunctioning robot, Republicans tonight repeated the same exact lines, promising to drag America back on everything from a woman's right to a safe and legal abortion, to the war in Iraq, to taking away all of the protections under the Affordable Care Act.
“We didn’t hear much truth or substance at this debate, but we did hear one message loud and clear, we need to elect a Democrat to the White House if we want a serious debate and a vision for how to move America forward.
“Under Democratic leadership we’ve had a record 71 straight months of private-sector job growth, creating over 14 million new jobs. We’ve cut our deficits by almost three-quarters. And, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, nearly 18 million Americans have healthcare coverage they didn’t previously have, and no one can be turned away for preexisting conditions. That's a contrast we're happy to campaign on.”
