Hillary for America Announces Two More Leadership Councils: Florida and Maryland
Hillary for America launched two more of its state Leadership Councils today – one in Florida and one in Maryland. The Leadership Councils will focus on helping Hillary Clinton win the Florida and Maryland primaries on March 15th and April 26, respectively.
The Florida Leadership Council includes over 150 top Florida officials like US Senator Nelson, former US Senator Bob Graham, nearly every Democratic member of Congress, over two-thirds of State House Democrats, and the mayors of some of the state’s largest cities including Tampa and Orlando.
The Maryland Leadership Council includes over 70 top Maryland officials such as Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, and many others.
Leadership Council members share Clinton’s commitment to raising wages for the middle class instead of their taxes, defending and enhancing the Affordable Care Act, her plan to reduce prescription drug costs, her passion for reforming the criminal justice system and her belief that cost should never be a barrier for students going to college and much more. The Florida and Maryland Leadership Councils serve as the in-state leadership for the campaign, amplifying the campaign’s national voice to Florida and Maryland families and aiding the campaign with rapid response, organization building, grassroots organizing events, recruiting volunteer leaders, and identifying leaders for Get Out The Vote activities.
“In support of her campaign in Florida, I am honored to serve on Hillary Clinton’s Florida Leadership Team and promote her agenda to improve the lives of middle class Americans, protect our seniors and to keep us safe from terrorism threats,” said Senator Bill Nelson.
“I have known Hillary for decades, dating back to her time with the Children’s Defense Fund,” said Congressman Alcee Hastings of Ft. Lauderdale.
“In this capacity, I came to know her as a smart and driven advocate, whose thoughtfulness and deliberation helped to advance justice and the rule of law in a time when African Americans and women struggled daily to attain the freedom and equality enshrined in our constitution. Hillary’s commitment to these principles has never wavered, and I can say unequivocally that she is the right choice for this nation."
“I am pleased to lend my support to Hillary Clinton,” said House Democratic Leader Pro Tempore Mia Jones of Jacksonville, FL “For years, as a First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State, Hillary has championed the cause of both women's and human rights issues. As president, Hillary will continue to move our country forward. It will be my pleasure to secure Florida for Clinton.”
“Over the last six years under President Obama, our country has seen tremendous progress and we can’t go backwards – that’s why we need Hillary Clinton as our next President,” said U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski. “Hillary has the experience and vision to continue moving our country forward, and I’m proud to join her Maryland Leadership Council to help mobilize supporters across this great state.”
"I'm committed to making Hillary Clinton our next President of the United States of America and want all Marylanders to join our team," said U.S. Senator Ben Cardin. "Hillary is fighting for the middle class, raising wages and making college more affordable. She's shown herself to be a courageous leader and strong advocate of progressive values."
The campaign has previously announced Leadership Councils in Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia. Over the course of the campaign, the Leadership Councils will continue to expand.
