ENDORSEMENT: FORMER US SENATOR BEN NIGHTHORSE CAMPBELL THINKS JOHN KASICH SHOULD BE PRESIDENT
Sen. Campbell to join former Colorado State Rep & GOP Majority Leader Amy Stephens and former State Rep. & GOP Majority Whip B.J. Nikkel as a Colorado State Co-Chair
Today, former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell from Colorado endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich for President. Senator Campbell joins other former U.S. Senators who have endorsed John Kasich, including former Majority Leader Trent Lott, former U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato, and former U.S. Senators from New Hampshire John E. Sununu and Gordon Humphrey. Following Senator Campbell's endorsement, the Kasich for America campaign named him Colorado State Co-Chair.
Senator Campbell served in Washington for eighteen years, first in the U.S. House for three terms, and then for two terms in the United States Senate before retiring in 2005. Prior to Congress, Sen. Campbell was elected twice to the Colorado House of Representatives. In 1998, Senator Campbell made Colorado history by securing the then-largest margin of victory ever for any statewide race in his Senate re-election. He is an internationally recognized martial arts expert who competed in the 1964 Olympics and won a gold medal for judo in the 1963 Pan-American games, and is a successful entrepreneur for his line of Native American jewelry.
Said Senator Campbell, "I served in Washington with John Kasich and saw his determination and leadership firsthand. With his vast experience and proven success in both Washington and as governor of Ohio, he is the ideal leader to help get our economy and nation back on track. Additionally, as a strong defender of states' rights, I support the governor's plan to move money, power and influence out of Washington and return it back to the people in the states who understand their local needs far better than the bureaucrats in Washington do. I am honored to endorse him, and I look forward to working with our strong Colorado team to put him in the White House."
"Ben Nighthorse Cambell is a legend," said Kasich. "He is a great man, he was an outstanding Senator, and he remains universally admired and respected. I am thrilled to welcome him aboard our Colorado team, and working alongside Amy Stephens and B.J. Nikkel, Sen. Campbell will prove to be an invaluable addition."
