Jim Gilmore Names Anne Smith as his New Hampshire State Coordinator
Alexandria, VA -- Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, today announced the appointment of New Hampshire strategist and policy consultant Anne Smith as his statewide coordinator.
The naming of Smith, who has been a senior US Senate advisor in international security and is well known in the grassroots community in the Granite State, comes just a few days after Gilmore announced the appointment of respected State Sen. Sam Cataldo as the New Hampshire State Chairman of Gilmore for America.
Gilmore announced, "as we become more engaged with the NH voter at events across NH and grow our campaign we are fortunate to have the talent and counsel of experienced New Hampshire campaigners like Anne Smith and Sen. Sam Cataldo." Smith stated, “voters in New Hampshire want to know that the next President will guide this nation back to prosperity, opportunity and security in a troubled age. Governor Gilmore is that leader.”
Gilmore, who entered the campaign three months ago, has made a strategic decision not to campaign in Iowa, like the other GOP candidates, and will focus on the Granite State. "We have a lot of faith in the voters of New Hampshire," Gilmore said. "Time and time again the wisdom of the people of New Hampshire on issues like the economy, jobs, taxes and national security has been proven correct."
Smith is currently President of The Policy Agency, LLC, a Bedford based consulting firm. She is a former Executive Director of the Independent Business Council of New Hampshire, and Deputy Director of the Europe Subcommittee on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. She has been actively involved in policy, grassroots and coalition work in several Republican campaigns for President at the national and state levels. She is a longtime local Republican activist in New Hampshire and Virginia.
Gilmore is the former chairman of a national commission that warned about the threat of a domestic terrorist attack before 9/11. He is an acknowledged authority on homeland security.
In addition to having served as Governor of Virginia, Gilmore -- who has visited New Hampshire 11 times in the past several months -- is also a former crime busting prosecutor and a former Virginia Attorney General. Additionally, he is also a veteran who served as a U.S. Army intelligence agent in Germany during the Cold War.
