Seven Former Iowa Democratic Party Chairs: Clinton is the Fighter We Need
Former party leaders will help grow Clinton’s strong grassroots organization in Iowa
Seven former Iowa Democratic Party Chairs called Hillary Clinton a “fighter” who will be a champion for everyday Iowans and build the Democratic Party in Iowa. On her trips to Iowa and throughout her career, Clinton has made a clear commitment to party building and said electing more Democrats is a good shortcut to ensure we grow our economy stronger, fairer, and for the long-term.
In their statements, the former Iowa Democratic Party Chairs praised Clinton's commitment to Iowa grassroots organizing and her economic vision focused on growing middle class wages. Clinton will speak this Friday at the Iowa Hall of Fame dinner.
The seven former IDP Chairs are former Iowa Attorney General Bonnie Campbell, Roxanne Conlin, Rob Tully, Sheila McGuire Riggs, former Iowa Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson, Sue Dvorsky, and former State Representative Tyler Olson. See below for statements in support of Hillary Clinton:
Former Attorney General Bonnie Campbell, 1987 - 1989
"America should be a country where a little girl can grow up knowing she can be President of the United States. Hillary Clinton is a trailblazing leader who won't just show little girls everywhere they can be President, she'll fight for policies that expand their opportunities and rights. That's why Hillary Clinton is fighting for equal pay, paid family leave, and an increase in the minimum wage. I want my President to fight for equality for all Americans and that's why I want Hillary Clinton to be our next President."
Roxanne Conlin, 1998 - 1999
"Hillary Clinton has what it takes to win in Iowa. She is committed to the kind of grassroots organizing that will engage and inspire Iowa Democrats to fight for her because she will be a President who fights for them. When Republicans try to restrict access to contraception, roll back hard won health care coverage, or insert themselves into medical decisions that ought to be between a woman and her doctor, I know Hillary Clinton will stand up for women and stand up to Republicans. Breaking the highest, hardest glass ceiling won't be easy, but Hillary never backs down from a fight and neither will we."
Rob Tully, 1998 - 2000
"When the bottom fell out of our economy because of reckless Republican policies, hardworking Iowa families didn't quit. Instead they worked hard and brought our country back from the brink. Hillary Clinton understands how hard Iowans are working and doesn't think they need a lecture from politicians, she thinks they need a raise. I'm proud to support Hillary Clinton because I know she won't quit on Iowans and will fight for working families to get ahead and stay ahead."
Sheila McGuire Riggs, 2000 - 2002
"When it comes to understanding the challenges facing working families today, Hillary Clinton just gets it. She is out front leading the fight to increase incomes for hardworking families and understands that we must address the high cost of childcare and college for the middle class. She has put these issues front and center from day one right here in Iowa. Fighting for children and families has been the work of Hillary Clinton's life and it's why I believe we need her fighting for us in the White House."
Former Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson, 2006 - 2008
"When an election is as important as the one facing Iowa Democrats next year, you need to have someone you can count on standing in your corner. That's why I'm supporting Hillary Clinton for President. Iowa Democrats have so much on the line in 2016 and Hillary Clinton has said she wants to stand with us as we take back the State House, grow our majority in the State Senate, elect Democrats to Congress, and put her in the White House. I'm standing with Hillary this caucus because she has stood with Iowa Democrats through thick and thin."
Sue Dvorsky, 2010 - 2013
"Hillary Clinton's commitment to the core values of the Democratic Party and to building up the Iowa Democratic Party make her the leader we need at this critical time. She knows that it takes Democrats from city council to the United State Senate to move this country forward and ensure hardworking families get ahead and stay ahead. I'm proud to stand with Hillary Clinton because she is standing with Iowa Democrats."
Former State Representative Tyler Olson, 2013
"Hillary Clinton is the fighter hardworking Iowa families need. While Republicans offer no new ideas to strengthen the middle class, Hillary Clinton is putting forward a bold plan for strong, fair, and long-term economic growth. Growing together is what America should be about and middle class families in Iowa need someone who will go to bat for them. Hands down that person is Hillary Clinton and it's why I'm so thrilled be working to elect her as our next President."
Since the beginning of her campaign, Clinton has built a strong grassroots effort to win the Iowa Caucus and energize Democrats ahead of the clear choice facing Iowans next November. Hillary for Iowa has already recruited at least one committed supporter in each of Iowa’s 1,682 precincts. The campaign has 47 grassroots organizers working every day in ten organizing offices across the state.
