Linda Smoley is a retired educator. She had held prior Democratic Party events in her home, but nothing of the magnitude of hosting Clinton. "She was just so gracious to everyone. Melissa Eggerling, who supported Clinton in 2008 and came out wither her two daughters Saturday, said Clinton’s second campaign is “night and day” from her first one. “I think she understands that she’s really got to understand the voters this time. State Rep. Marti Anderson hosted one such gathering at her home in Beaverdale, a Des Moines neighborhood that was so active for Obama in 2008 that it took on the moniker “Obamadale.” With a few dozen of her neighbors gathered in her living room and kitchen, Anderson gave a moving testimonial to Clinton’s character. “I think Hillary is among the best of us,” she said. “You will hear all kinds of things about Hillary that don’t sound like the best of us, but I don’t see her as having any mean-and-nasty, horrible, hating everybody or anybody in her system. I think she’s a person that truly loves every human being.” [Washington Post]
Blake Corley, a 22-year-old Clinton super-fan, drove up from New Orleans and got in around 4 a.m. Sunday to see the candidate in the flesh. “When I was born, Hillary Clinton was first lady and I know she’s been fighting for my generation since before I was born,” he said. [MSNBC]
Clinton spent the rest of her visit in Sioux City mingling with guests, posing for photos and talking to supporters, which definitely impressed voters. "It's energizing that she can come into a small group and even though she's former secretary of state and a presidential candidate that she just acts like a regular person and she's very personable," says Kim Weaver, O'Brein County Democratic Chair. Jim Davis volunteered for Clinton’s 2008 campaign and met with the candidate on her first trip to Iowa this year. “She’d be great the job,” he said. “Now we’ve got to see if we can get her elected.” [MSNBC]
