Democratic Party Presidential Hopefuls Converge on South Carolina
Columbia —South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison announced today that former Governor of Rhode Island Lincoln Chafee will be attending the SCDP’s Democratic Weekend April 24th and 25th, and speaking at the Party’s State Convention. Former Governor Chafee announced just yesterday that he was forming an exploratory committee to consider running for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President.
“As the ‘First in the South’ Primary for the Democratic Party, we are looking forward to visits from all of the potential presidential candidates, and hearing them share their vision to continue growing our nation’s economy, ending inequality of all kinds, and investing in our children’s future,” SCDP Chairman Jaime Harrison said.
Chafee will be joined by former Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley, who is also seriously considering a run for the Party’s nomination, David “Mudcat” Saunders who will be appearing on behalf of former Senator of Virginia Jim Webb, and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe a close friend and supporter of Secretary Hillary Clinton at the State Party’s Convention on Saturday, April 25th.
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) will be delivering the Keynote Address at the Party’s Jefferson Jackson Dinner on Friday, April 24th.
