Gov. Mike Huckabee responds to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address
Huckabee: "Netanyahu is a Churchill in a world full of Chamberlains and I'm disappointed with President Obama's refusal to listen."
Little Rock, Ark. - Former Arkansas Governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee issued the following statement in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress:
"Prime Minister Netanyahu is a Churchill in a world full of Chamberlains and I'm disappointed with President Obama's refusal to listen. Israel is an oasis of liberty in a dangerous neighborhood full of dictators, and we should open our ears to his warnings.
"At its core, a nuclear agreement requires us trusting Iran. Who can reasonably trust the Ayatollah? Iran is the primary sponsor of terrorism around the world. Since the revolution in 1979, Iran has called America the 'Great Satan' and Israel the 'Little Satan.' Iranian leaders have talked openly about wiping Israel off the map.
"Put simply, a nuclear armed Iran is a death sentence. It would spark a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, threaten Israel's existence and embolden terrorists around the world. The agreement doesn't stop Iran from getting the bomb. It doesn't stop warhead development or missile technology.
"The U.S. has the upper hand militarily, economically and diplomatically --now is not the time for appeasement. Congress should immediately pass a tough Iranian sanctions bill, hold President Obama accountable and stand strong with Israel."
