RSLC Announces Ed Gillespie to Serve as Chairman Emeritus
Washington D.C. (January 29, 2015) – Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) President Matt Walter announced today that former RSLC Chairman Ed Gillespie will rejoin the committee as Chairman Emeritus for the 2015-2016 election cycle. In this role, Gillespie will provide strategic advice to the RSLC as they build on the historic successes of the 2014 elections and help grow .gop - the only political top level domain in the world.
“Ed has made a distinct mark in politics, government and business as someone who has been able to build and grow great things. He’s done this everywhere he’s been, including as my predecessor at the RSLC, and we’re thrilled he has agreed to serve in this role,” said RSLC Chairman Bill McCollum.
“The RSLC and .gop have a proven record of innovation, and I’m eager to work with them again to expand their impact even further in state level politics," Gillespie said. "For years, the committee has been a leader in advancing new ways to give elected officials and supporters the best venue to change and improve the trajectory of our states and country."
"We are excited to have Ed back working on the next generation of new, innovative ideas and programs," said RSLC President Matt Walter. "He brings tremendous value and experience in many categories, notably in helping protect the Republican legislative majorities in Gillespie’s home state of Virginia - which will be a top priority for the RSLC this year."
In 2010, when Gillespie served as RSLC Chairman, the group launched the REDistricting MAjority Project (REDMAP), focusing resources on states projected to gain or lose Congressional seats. The RSLC raised $30 million for the cycle and helped Republicans take control of 20 new legislative chambers.
As RSLC Chairman during the 2012 cycle, he launched visionary new projects like the Future Majority Project, “Right Women, Right Now” initiative, and .gop, while raising record sums that helped result in a net pick up of legislative chambers in a challenging Republican year. In addition to his work with the RSLC and .gop, Gillespie will help plan for the party’s redistricting efforts leading up to the 2020 census.
