Grassley Chief of Staff David Young to Announce Senate Bid
VAN METER – Tomorrow, David Young, 45 of Van Meter, will officially enter the race to replace retiring U.S. Senator Tom Harkin. Young plans to have an early lunch with family and a few friends at Fat Randi’s Bar and Grill in Van Meter. During lunch he will complete the official paperwork required to become a candidate. He’ll then walk down the street to the Van Meter Post Office and mail the documents to the Secretary of the Senate in Washington, D.C.
Why will Young begin this journey from Van Meter? “Grandpa and Grandma Young owned Young’s Café in Van Meter when my dad was growing up. Mom and dad met at Van Meter Community School and became sweethearts. My brother and sister and I grew up here. My family attended Van Meter United Methodist Church,” said Young.
“Making this move to advocate for Iowans at a higher level along side my friend and mentor Senator Chuck Grassley is a risk I deem well worth taking. It can help ensure that my nieces and nephews and future generations of Iowans have a shot at a wonderful American dream like I’ve had,” he continued.
Following the lunch and filing, David and his family will be enjoying the community festivities planned in Van Meter for the annual Raccoon River Days celebration.
