U.S. Senator Ted Cruz to Headline South Carolina Republican Party Silver Elephant Celebration
Governor Nikki Haley and Senators Tim Scott, Lindsey Graham, and Jim DeMint also scheduled to speak
Columbia, S.C.- The South Carolina Republican Party is honored to welcome U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as the keynote speaker at its 46th Annual Silver Elephant Celebration: A Tribute to US Senator Jim DeMint.
The event, to be held this Friday night, will celebrate the state's vibrant and growing Republican Party with Barbecue and Beaufort Stew, and live music.
“The Silver Elephant Celebration has a storied tradition of bringing the brightest stars in the GOP to South Carolina – many of whom have run for national office. Reflecting on that tradition, we felt that Senator Ted Cruz was a compelling choice. With a commitment to less government and more freedom, he is clearly a Jim DeMint brand of Republican. In only a short time we have seen Senator Cruz lead on issues ranging from the deficit to gun rights to efforts to repeal Obamacare and Senator Cruz is exactly the type of leader we need in Washington. As we honor Senator DeMint and his service to South Carolina, we are excited to hear from Senator Cruz as he carries on the work Senator DeMint started,” said Chad Connelly, chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.
Governor Nikki Haley and Senators Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint are also scheduled to speak. Members of South Carolina's Congressional delegation, Constitutional officers, and Legislative leaders will be in attendance.
